This exchange suddenly feels less lighthearted.

RIP George.
RIP InMyArms' sense of humour.

Oh ffs it's just not reasonable to expect people to have a sense of humour about the unexpected death of someone that was important to them. Especially when they have only just heard the news. Give it a couple of days and maybe the (oh so clever) quips will get a better response. Meanwhile try summoning up a bit of basic empathy and realise that this is genuinely sad and shocking news for some.

RIP George Michael

If you're responding to my post, immediately above yours, it was actually about InMyArms' self-chastisement.

Not yours specifically tbf. I'd have quoted you otherwise. More some of the mildly dickish comments earlier in the thread.

Also (and double bollocks on realising this) I thought I was in the George Michael has died thread!! Doh Doh Doh! Too much Christmas cheer apparently

Is there room left on the montage?

Is that what it was? Someone else had mentioned heart failure, but egg nog and brandy can be a lethal combo.

The 2016 memorial poster is going to look like the cover art for Sgt. Pepper's.

It already is though. Who would you get rid of to make room for George Michael?

Cool. Well, I suppose I should say ambivalent really.

Nice one, Dom.

[Edit] Looks like it was actually made by Chris Barker.

Vera Rubin, pioneering astronomer, dies at 88

Only just heard this on the news. Her work is widely considered as strong evidence of the existence of dark matter. She observed the rotation of galaxies and noted that the stars furthest from the centre don't obey Newton's laws. Instead of 'swirling', with the outermost stars orbiting more slowly than those closer to the galactic centre, they appear to be moving in lockstep as though embedded in a rigid disc. Something that still puzzles me.

Wonderful - I was waiting for someone to mention her passing - a total star of the mind if ever there was one.

Rest well Vera. X
