Courtney
According to The Sun :-
"COURTNEY Wood who came second on The Apprentice has decided to change the name of the company he launched on the show – despite having the platform of the BBC prime-time audience. The 29-year-old fell at the last hurdle trying to convince Lord Alan Sugar to invest in his novelty gifts company Purple Whale, and according to The Daily Star, the Essex boy has now changed the company name to… Bubblegum Stuff." Says it all really - and he claims to be a business man ? What a fool. |

He hasn't changed the name at all. It's been called Bubblegum Stuff since he incorporated the company in November 2013.

[quote=Sjsyey;84975390 No the fools are the producers who for some reason thought making the candidates come up with new brand for existing businesses was at all realistic. Why would anyone go to the time/expense of changing their business name unless the brand is fundamentally flawed?
Arguably he should have paid for searches for purple whale to be directed to bubblegum stuff but that is all.[/QUOTE] If they went with existing business there would have been no point in a final and certainly no point with past candidates being there beacuse it is all about creativity. And your point about for " purple whale to be directed to bubblegum stuff but that is all" is all well and good but I doubt would have the same impact. |

Arguably he should have paid for searches for purple whale to be directed to bubblegum stuff but that is all. Come to think of it, is this the first final in which both candidates were basically looking to expand what they were already doing? I think in previous years at least one candidate has proposed something new, and even winners Mark and Ricky were proposing new businesses based on their previous jobs for other employers. And yes, Courtney should have bought the domain and redirected it to his own company. |

There is a crucial difference between The Apprentice and Dragons Den. The Dragons buy part of an existing business; Lord Sugar sets up a new company, injects £250,000 into it, and gives half the company to the winner. The final task, then, is not quite as absurd as it seems at first sight.
Certainly that is what Joseph has done - and to a degree Leah. |

But in many cases "sets up a new company " often means just rebranding a existing business and expanding that surely ?
Certainly that is what Joseph has done - and to a degree Leah. |

Not Leah. She was still working as a junior hospital doctor when she won. Possibly Tom, as Lord Sugar ran with nail care products rather than the chair business in Tom's business plan.
The point I am making is that all of them - including Leah - came with a business plan and every one of them wanted investment to grow that plan. In some cases other opportunity came because of that and of course that is excellent but to begin with that was why they came. So I do not see him "setting up a new company " as such. And with regards to Leah I think she still works for the NHS on occasions. |
