A toast to Phil Mitchell???
He has treated everyone in the square like the shit on his shoe including Mick, ripping him off over the Vic's rising damp, insulting his sick baby son etc.
What cobblers! ![]() ![]()

Exactly what I thought. Thank SOC for this mess of a show. Everyone given a personality transplant, love and warmth on a scale Lorraine Newman would be proud of. Absolutely zero drama or any storylines worth investing your time in.

It was very poor taste, he is having a transplant due to alcoholism damaging his liver and they toast him with alcohol

I've never understood the adulation this character and the actor who plays him get.
We've been spoonfed the illusion that we all love Phil for years now, but his story came to an end years ago, but they decided to roll him out again even though he's one of the worst actors on the show. |

This might not be a popular opinion but never mind, I wish the EE writers would have the balls to axe Phil Mitchell and Sharon. It's obvious Phil will recover and go back to being a gobby bully once he gets his new liver. And he'll be recovered in under a month. I can just imagine it Phil stating he's "back, fighting fit and no one will stop me" or whatever while crappy sharon looks at him with a simpering expression on her face saying "that's my Phil". One of the reasons I love Hollyoaks is that there are new characters every so often and the stories are fresh while Eastenders is just same old same old. I stopped watch Eastenders every episode a while back and some weeks I don't watch it at all. It's just so boring. When I dip back into it it's just so samey. A godawful boring Mitchell fest. So yes Keyser I absolutely agree with you. Down with Phil Mitchell! Off with his head!!

![]() ![]() ![]() I watch most of the soaps and do dip in and out of HO and you are right, they have got the balance correct. They use characters correctly, they bring in new characters, they have a shelf life, they are involved in good dramatic storylines, if a little over sensational at times but that is what a soap is today. With EE its like it cannot accept its in the 21st century. Its heyday was in the 80's and early 90's and they have just not moved with the times. The show only really focuses on a handful of families and its ridiculous that they role out the same old tired families and characters year after year that its now backed itself into a corner. They simply do not have the ability to think up good quality new characters because they put too much time into the old characters to bother. Last night was absolutely pathetic and nothing in keeping with how modern family life is. That get together in the vic was one of the most contrived pathetic attempts at a throwback to the old days I've ever seen in a soap. The fact they are relying on yet another old character who hasn't been on screen for 2 decades shows you what problems they have in thinking up new storylines or characters. |

In reality most of them would want him dead.
Just a comedy episode really, like a childrens in need. |

I'll give you Phil though. His turnaround has been a bit too quick for my liking even if his health has deteriorated to such an extent he doesn't really have it in him to be vile to anyone at the moment. It's the pandering towards him I can't stand. And I didn't quite buy the toast (though I guess you could argue even if you don't like someone you wouldn't necessarily wish them dead). Quote:

There's never going to be a 'uniform' view when it comes to the quality of the programme. |

On the directors cut of that scene they all slit their abdomens and offer up their livers in noble sacrifice to save Phil.
Realistically half the square would actually be waiting to piss on his grave if he ever died so all this toasting and simpering around the old scumbag is absolutely preposterous. |

No they wouldn't quite a few of them are seemingly decent people.

In the real world the Philth would have been banged up or dead long before the 21st century even began. Actually for the record there are plenty of people on the net who encourage innocent or vulnerable people to commit suicide - it gives them some sort of sadistic pleasure. Sad but then that is Homo sapiens for you. |

The pandering to Phil in recent weeks/months is worthy of a
The man has treated everybody around him like shit. Can we finally stop pretending he's some kind of hero? I usually love Sharon but she has been testing my patience recently with all the demands that people rally round that absolute scumbag. And the line last night about all the drama he's put her through being "worth it". Is this really Den Watts' daughter?

I agree, but then he was awful to Jamie (in the later part of his life) and Lisa in the past as well.
