It's coincidence - I mean, millions die every day and nobody notices, but with so many celebrity deaths it does look creepy. If anything, it is a reminder of mortality (if any were needed).

I guess as these cultural touch points disappear, we should reflect on the positive lesson to be taken - focus on those we truly know and love and nurture our own talents and those of people close to us.

In the words of Dylan - the times they are a-changing.
You say that, but our local authority has been having a absolute crisis with crematorium capacity this year. We've got an elderly population, but still. It started with a bad flu spell in January and hasn't let up.

A few towns is still anecdotal, but I'm starting to feel genuinely unsettled.

Can we not talk about how he died and instead just pay respects to such a talented individual who brought so much to so many people through his music.

Rest well George

Gosh what an absolutely horrific year 2016 has turned out to be. George was an amazing singer and performer, such a young age as well. RIP George x

OMG - I am in tears. George Michael was my first and biggest crush - I can't believe that he's gone.

I feel like I actually knew him.

Gutted. RIP George- hope you find the happiness in the after life that I suspect you never quite found in this.

I am shattered.
Seconded.

The deaths are more noticable now because of the boom in media coverage from the late 60's onwards whereas stars from say the 50s where known by name, but little TV footage exists of them. When say Sinatra died in 1998 yes it made the global news nome clips will have been shown, but there wasnt the vast amount of TV clips like there is with stars we have lost this year, TV researchers would have to take days to search the archives not the readily avaiable clips we have now.

I did wonder about a story in the paper a few weeks ago about George and his ex-partner spending time together and I did wonder what the reason behind that was. But if George was ill, it doesn't tie in with the fact that plans were being made for a new album. So who knows.

An amazing talent. Rest in peace George.

l've already posted on this thread but I can't help myself. I can't actually believe that he's gone. Of course, I heard the rumours but I never thought that I'd be reading this news.

I feel that part of me has died.

I have never felt this way about the death of someone that I didn't actually know personally.

I am beyond devastated.

R.I.P George - I hope that you have now found the peace that I suspect eluded you for much of you life.

I reckon there have been similar years in the past, where many well known people have died within months of each other, but with modern day communications and the cult of celebrity only really being a phenomenon in the last 50 years, it seems unusual.

A reminder that nobody is invincible.

Awful news. So, so sad. For some reason I don't feel shocked though. I always had a feeling that he would die quite young. I remember years ago an interview he gave in which he admitted to sleeping with hundreds of people in his hey day and never ever using any protection. He was very promiscuous. I've always thought that maybe he had HIV/AIDS. Nothing has ever been clear about the illness he suffered from and I do wonder if maybe him getting Pneumonia was down to his immune system being weakened by HIV/AIDS. Very sad news. Very talented, especially in song writing.

To be quite honest I just feel numb, so many names gone this year it's almost like I've been inured to it a little.

I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow and it'll sink in.

Lots of well known people coincidentally dying at the same time. Disturbing, as they are cultural touch points for many of us but nothing unusual when you consider many thousands die daily but nobody notices.

This is a haunting song of his, which is still relevant to today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goroyZbVdlo

"It's hard to love,
when there's so much to hate
hanging on to hope,
when there is no hope to speak of,
.....and the wounded sky's above,
say it's much too late,
so maybe we should all be praying for time."

You do NOT need to be promiscuous to be at risk of HIV/AIDS.

Pneumonia is possibly the biggest cause of death from illness, of all variations.

We assume a lot but know very little.

Normal speed: Slow dance

Showbiz blind from February. Was thought to be about George.

I am going to go ahead and give this foreign born singer, permanent A list status. You could argue he isn’t because he has not released anything in forever or performed in forever either. All of that non work while maintaining his spending habits has left him broke. So, he wants to perform. Doctors said if he pushes too hard he will end up killing himself. I think he wants the money so will go on tour.

Death is part of life. Nothing's changed. Don't feel unsettled, just value what you have and enjoy your life.
