Very sad news. I was at high school when Wham! were in their pomp. I had no idea George was so young himself when making those great hits. RIP George,

Showbiz blind from February. Was thought to be about George.

I am going to go ahead and give this foreign born singer, permanent A list status. You could argue he isn’t because he has not released anything in forever or performed in forever either. All of that non work while maintaining his spending habits has left him broke. So, he wants to perform. Doctors said if he pushes too hard he will end up killing himself. I think he wants the money so will go on tour.
George Michael isn't a "foreign born singer". Unless East Finchley where he was born is foreign?

Death is part of life. Nothing's changed. Don't feel unsettled, just value what you have and enjoy your life.
I agree.
do think there's been an underlying issue for George for a while and he rightly kept things private. I remember the Daily Fail running a typical "omg look what they look like now" story, You could see something was clearly wrong

Turned on the tv, I'm shocked with the news. He wrote some great songs. Another great artist.

Most of the blinds are published on USA websites.

l've already posted on this thread but I can't help myself. I can't actually believe that he's gone. Of course, I heard the rumours but I never thought that I'd be reading this news.

I feel that part of me has died.

I have never felt this way about the death of someone that I didn't actually know personally.

I am beyond devastated.

R.I.P George - I hope that you have now found the peace that I suspect eluded you for much of you life.
He'll be with his Mum now. That thought is keeping me going. His music has been with me for most of my life and I can empathise with how you're feeling.

You do NOT need to be promiscuous to be at risk of HIV/AIDS.

Pneumonia is possibly the biggest cause of death from illness, of all variations.

We assume a lot but know very little.
Calm down. Of course "you don't need to be promiscuous to be at risk of HIV/AIDS", however having unprotected sex puts you at risk of contracting the disease, and George admitted that in his hey day he had unprotected sex with hundreds of people. Not that that means he had the disease of course.

Yep, ever since WE made him famous was his biggest problem right up until his death.

Money, record sales pressure and all the rest that a money making celebrity has to deal with. A true talent, but dealing with that pressure takes its toll, so glad that I am Joe Blogs with a more ordinary life.

Thankful every day.

Oh, I'm in shock.

As much as you admire, love a celebrity, when they die you feel sad but not the same way you would for family or friends. Or so I feel. A little piece of you, of your past has gone....something less cerebral, it's an emotional thing, linked to a specific moment in your life.

I loved Bowie, but George Micheal was truly from my era. One of the first albums I bought was WHAM! I was eight or something and really just liked what was on the radio and then Faith came out and my god, I loved him! He was my first crush, the first guy I ever 'liked'. He was the eighties 1D for my friends and I. And there was no Tumblr back in the day!

Although my taste in music changed over the years, I still loved him because he brought me back to the good old easy days when my best friend Elizabeth and I would play Teacher and Father Figure and stare and sigh at the massive poster of him we both had in our bedrooms.

And on Christmas Day. This year has been crap. And not only on celeb level, so many 'regular' folk in my life have died this year.

Amen. The celebrity culture is unhealthy and it's time it stopped. Appreciate what you have.

George was a great singer with a valued career. He seemed to have it all, but he also struggled with personal problems. I knew he was in critical health years ago, but glad he pulled through then. Having said that still a big shock he has died on Christmas Day at just 53...

Hopefully no more celeb deaths in 2016....

The biggest celeb in the country could be Elton John...when he goes the internet will go into meltdown .. sadly people die...but some people really touch the public's heart ....

Thank you for your words. I know that it may appear stupid for some .I didn't know him He didn't know me. But he was part of my growing up - hope ,expectations, dreams....People used ti ask me why I was still single and I'd smilingly say that I was waiting for George to realise his mistake...Not anymore.

Truly though, I am in tears and I have lost people who were real in my life and clearly this doesn't compare -but I am bereft. RIP George.

Some people seem too young to die...sadly some of the best artistes are taken early. His catalogue of work is a great legacy to leave and expect new fans to discover him as a result of his death.

I remember Wham (Rap) & Club Tropicana. But Careless Whisper was the song of a musical genius and it stands the test of time. An amazing talent who will be missed by millions.

Boy George is in rude health.....he could have died so many times. Thankfully he is now clean....

So sad at this, what a voice that man had - he must rank as one of the greatest pop stars ever.

I don't buy all this stuff about the age of celebrity culture when people are dying so young... 2016 is just a terrible, terrible year for legendary musicians.

Going from your posts in the thread you seem to be making the assumption that people don't appreciate the family and friends they have because they are shocked and mourning the many celebrity deaths in 2016 so much? Don't really see the link myself and maybe I'm misunderstanding your posts.

Anyway, celebrity culture will never die. If anything it's going to get bigger especially with social media platforms where you can form groups as fans to discuss your favourite celebrity. I personally don't see anything wrong with admiring/loving a celebrity whether because you love their songs/acting talent or whatever.

One of my enduring memories from childhood is my mum playing "Older" on repeat. He died the same age as my mum did, several years ago.

So sad. It's not until you look at his back catalogue that you truly realise how many iconic songs he had. So talented, gone so young.

This is a haunting song of his, which is still relevant to today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goroyZbVdlo

"It's hard to love,
when there's so much to hate
hanging on to hope,
when there is no hope to speak of,
.....and the wounded sky's above,
say it's much too late,
so maybe we should all be praying for time."

Very haunting and timelessly relevant. I'll be eternally grateful I got to see him perform it live. I was only reading the latest about the forthcoming special edition of Listen Without Prejudice on his website on Christmas Eve. Mother's Pride on the same album is another that has sadly not lost its poignancy.

I did wonder about a story in the paper a few weeks ago about George and his ex-partner spending time together and I did wonder what the reason behind that was. But if George was ill, it doesn't tie in with the fact that plans were being made for a new album. So who knows.

An amazing talent. Rest in peace George.
BIB i heard that at the time & wondered about it too.

Now i just want to remember the great talent that was George Michael.

i started off liking Andrew Ridgeley & ended up loving George. i truly shocked & and devasted by this news.
