Thanks for the music, George.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the best songwriter of his generation. I hope he is now at peace.

just felt a bit surreal to me when the news came through yesterday, almost like a joke. He was a massive icon really, fan or no fan. For it to be announced Christmas day, of all days is just strange.

Its not even like some of these deaths are old timers in their 80s so the clearing of a generation is being witnessed, some of these icons should have had a few years left.

you can say drugs/life style is a factor etc but these are some icons stars are still around after wrecking themselves. just bizarre, like this stuff shouldnt be happening and we have slipped into an alternate universe.

RIP

Last Christmas was released the same year as Band Aid.

Also from what I read George Micheal and the rest of Wham donated all the money Last Christmas made to Band Aid.

Band Aid were number one I was the born with Last Christmas in second position.

Indeed Wham's involvement with Band Aid led to the royalties being donated to the Ethiopian famine.

As a small gesture, I hope Last Christmas is re-released and finally gets to number 1 now just to show how much he and his music were loved. Especially this song which deserved to get to number 1 the first time around. It would be quite fitting. Just like when John Lennon's imagine and Bohemian Rhapsody were re-released following the deaths of John Lennon and Freddie Mercury.

As I said in the music forum thread, I kind of hope Last Christmas never gets to number one otherwise it would lose its record of Biggest Selling Single In The UK To Never Reach No.1

A sad loss. He had a lovely voice and seemed to be such a nice person. I love his duets with Aretha and Mary. J. Blige.

Also, his Comic Relief sketch with James Cordon shows what a great sense of humour he had.”

It was hilarious, and clearly the genesis for Carpool Karaoke - here's the clip on the BBC News website - you can't help but smile! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-38435578

Only said Last week to my Husband I've a feeling there'll be another Celeb Death before the years out ,but didn't think it'd be George or Rick ...more on the lines of Brucie

Shocked at both these

RIP George and Rick

So many memories

Be good to yourself because nobody else has the power to make you happy

those lyrics got me through some of my darkest moments.

RIP George, gone way too soon but never forgotten. xx

Why the hell is everybody stood round his house?, he isn't going to rise again.
Jesus let the poor guys family have some time, animals sometimes the press, well actually all the time.

I'm surprised people have been allowed to walk right up to his front door and the press allowed to park there also.

Was shocked when the news came through last night and still can't quite believe it this morning. I've loved him through all his ups and downs. I thought George - along with Amy Winehouse - was the best songwriter this country has produced for decades. Sadly both these tormented talents are no longer with us. What a loss.

I wonder if he'll get some form of tribute concert? I imagine there would be plenty of people ready to perform his songs and plenty willing to buy tickets. Especially if the proceeds went to a charity he supported.

It might have been daft if he'd been caught doing it once, but it happened repeatedly!

Another great talent gone too soon. This year has been truly awful in that respect.

George wrote some wonderful songs and had a sublime voice.

There was often an air of melancholy about him which was wonderful for his musical creativity. If only he could have achieved long term happiness as well - but maybe that just isn't possible.

I was working throughout the night and I only heard about his death early this morning and I have to admit, I wept.

I wept for him, dying alone, for the shock for his poor family and for the many memories I have of him and the impact his music had on me. I cannot listen to Jesus to a child without welling up...one of his most beautiful and haunting songs ever.

I saw him live a few years back in Dublin and he was just sublime and what a witty man he was too.

Rest in peace George and thanks for the many memories. xx
