He was one of the few male singers who could sing Freddie's songs.
He was also a prodigious song writer.

53 , bloody hell.

I know we are touting 2016 as a Sleb Grim Reaper fest, but I can't recall such a bad 12 months for Pop icons pegging out.

RIP George.

Easier to ignore it today.

He was the epitome of dignity and "class". And regardless of what others threw at him ( salacious press stories) or his own gaffes he was universally admired and well-loved here in the UK.

The album he was working on - don't know what stage it was at but guess but he should have had many more fruitful years.

There have been rumours about that for years. It's not just because he was gay. He was risky with it and into anonymous sex, even when he was in a relationship. He also nearly died of pneumonia a few years back. I don't think he had AIDS though. I saw a very recent picture of him and he did not look shrunken and ill like Freddie Mercury did.

Sad to see him go. He was a brilliant songwriter.

Not only was he a great singer and songwriter, he came across as a really nice, intelligent, witty bloke who wasn't scared to laugh at himself.
His appearance on Extras was typical of him and his self depreciating humour and the fact that, underneath it all, he was still the same home counties kid who kept it real.

A lot of sad, shocking deaths this year but this is the one that's closest to home as he's only a few years older than me and he's just always been there throughout my teen years onwards

Focus on his work then.

Not just gay. Very promiscuously gay. And at a time when HIV was spreading uncontrolled among gay men. He has suffered bouts of pneumonia, and suffered ill health for many years. It's not at all stupid to presume he had AIDS.

Interesting and honest look at his life.
George Michael has faced his final curtain

Obviously not one of his own compositions but he sang it beautifully.

If he was straight and promiscuous do you think people would be presuming it was Aids?

Bearing in mind that 95% of HIV being diagnosed is heterosexual people. Worth thinking about.

It's pretty stupid to state that it was "probably" AIDS, given that (even if he were HIV+) very few people with HIV in the UK these days die of AIDS:

Quote:
“In 2013, less than 1% of people living with a diagnosed HIV infection in the UK died (cause of death is uncertain and may not be HIV-related). This is about the same as for the UK population as a whole. People newly diagnosed with HIV today can expect to have a normal life expectancy if they are diagnosed on time and on effective treatment.”

You need to check your statistics that isn't the case in the U.K.

Still a high proportion of heterosexuals in the uk I'm afraid.

As I said if he was straight and promiscuous HIV or aids wouldn't be mentioned. To say it was probably aids is disgraceful. It may or may not be. But to assume it was because of his sexuality is ridiculous.

Shows how small minded people are even in 2016.

Yes, he was.

That's all you need to know, really.

Not that long after almost dying from acute pneumonia he accepts the job helping close the 2012 Olympics. Here's "Freedom" live.

I was only thinking this myself. He was just incredible when singing Freddie's songs. Such a natural choice.

He also did a damn fine version of "Don't let the Sun go Down on me" with Elton.

God bless you, Michael.

He looked and sounded his best on that duet with Elton
One of our finest song writers and singers, we will never see his like again
The Mirror today have published a dreadful photo of George, the last taken apparently, showing him bloated and unrecognisable. Why do they have to be so disrespectful
The dying "peacefully" rather than "suddenly" is bound to give rise to speculation
Goodnight George, "You have been loved"
