He looked and sounded his best on that duet with Elton
One of our finest song writers and singers, we will never see his like again The Mirror today have published a dreadful photo of George, the last taken apparently, showing him bloated and unrecognisable. Why do they have to be so disrespectful The dying "peacefully" rather than "suddenly" is bound to give rise to speculation Goodnight George, "You have been loved" Just disrespectful, freaking rags the whole lot of them |

SERIOUSLY? Wow how bloody ignorant.
A lot of people posed similar questions about prince alongside those who had genuinely never even heard of him. |

Very sad to see him looking like that and I agree the tabloids are disrespectful for publishing that photo. |

Well not really. Younger people who aren't that in to music over and above what's currently "in" or who are "locked" in to their genre of music will share similar opinions. Also, they won't have been born at the time when George was pretty much writing everybody's soundtrack to the eighties.

His death is clearly very said for his family and friends but the reality is that he hadn't made a song most people cared about for over 20 years. To hear some people, you'd think Christmas had stopped in its tracks for them. If you didn't know him, it's sad news, but not a world-changing, or even day-changing issue.

Feel free to start 152,000 threads about all these other people then. Good luck with that.
Why do some people always fail to appreciate that the death one person who touched the lives of so many people *is* more significant than the death of complete strangers? |

I don't think anyone has suggested that it was. All I can see is people feeling very sad that someone who has given them pleasure at some point in their lives has passed away suddenly at a relatively young age. |

Quite upsetting really. I grew up with him
![]() Last saw him speeding past me in a car aboot three years ago when walking around Kennington. Had to laugh. Somebody dying in their 50s doesn't seem that old now. My dad was 55 when he died, so it does happen. As horrible as this sounds, he did make some good records. It's sad, but I don't see it any more important than somebody unknown dying at that age. |

He didn't 'touch lives'. He made some good records some time in the past. In what way does that equate to touching lives?

Why? He is only important to people that liked him. I mean if Messi or Neymar died tomorrow people who don`t watch football wouldn`t really care.

He was certainly a great singer songwriter and musician.
I think he came into his own post Wham with albums like Listen Without Prejudice and Faith. His frustrations with the legal tussles with record companies, the drug use and what I'd guess were some personal inner demons probably didn't help and I doubt we ever saw his full potential. Very sad news. I always got the impression that he was basically a very decent person who lost his way a bit. God bless and rest in peace. |

Very generous of him, but not something that means that he touched many lives.

I was almost 17 when young guns came out, I immediately fell in love with George, I even had a YOG ring which I wore always until I had my first baby in '91 and it had to be cut off my swollen hand, lol I am still sad today, I have watched some you tube videos and I will continue to be a bit sad for a couple of days I expect, it's just how music and the people that make it, affect us as humans. |

There are many other examples just in the comments of that one tweet, for example one person worked for the Help a London Child charity and said every year he would match all the donations. Having read comments and posts this morning all over various social networks these were not isolated one off donations. Many, many examples of him helping people. That's without the effect his music had on people, gave them pleasure, helped them through difficult times.
He does seem to have been a caring, generous soul who didn't cope that well with fame |

This is honestly getting really weird this year now. It actually feels weird. It's making me think more than ever there really is a God, he wants lots of top entertainment up there in the sky, and has summoned up more than ever this year!
RIP the legend George Micheal |
