How many of us are awake right now, because we can't sleep as we're in shock.
I've had a bloody awful nights sleep and was hoping to wake and find it was a bad dream...sadly not.

It's going to be a long time before I can listen to the incredible talent that was George Michael, without having to fight the urge to cry.

Hopefully he's with his beloved mum now.

Rest easy George. Such a beautiful man inside and out. Xxx

I totally loved George and his music. He was a genius and helped me through many a difficult time with his songs. I am devastated - beyond bereft.

I have had many a personal loss but this is the first 'celebrity ' death which has devastated me. RIP George - I hope that you now find the peace that I don't believe that you found in this life.

RIP.
I'm with you on that one.

I feel vaguely stupid being so upset at my age, but he has been such an important and significant part of my life since I was 8. George has always been my 'go to' singer to listen to.

It's hard to think I'll never get to see him live ever again.

As you say, we can only hope he is at peace now. Xxx

RIP. So shocked. 2016 really is the worst.

Please no Madonna or Gaga tribute either thanks. I don't know who you would get though. Off the top of my head: Elton for the ballads and Adam Lambert for the pop songs would work.

an unexpected shock, sad the loss of such a great talent who touched most of our lives, who wrote songs we could all have meaning for, a true 80's icon .

and of all the days he could have passed, it had to be christmas day, the day celebrated in his perennial crimbo hit 'last christmas' - the irony.

'a different corner' was sublime
'edge of heaven' is my fav track of 1986...

'you guns (go for it)' must be the most original, brave debut release by anyone (apart from kate bush - wuthering heights).

most of us have yet another hole in our lives, losing someone who touched us... we are all a lot poorer now, after bowie, prince, burns, lemmy, parfitt, now george.. are gone.

This is very sad news. I liked a good few of his songs. Even got his CD Ladies and Gentlemen somewhere in the house.
I now sometimes play that album via Spotify as I have a Spotify Premium account.

Another tragic loss from the music world. I can only echo what everyone else has posted.

I was flicking through the music channels earlier and when I got to MTV Classic the programme was "George Michael - A Tribute". That was when I realised George was no longer with us and to say I was shocked is probably an understatement.

R.I.P. George Michael An incredible singer with an endless list of fantastic songs that will always be remembered.

Rip George Michael!!!

Wouldn't it be a brilliant tribute if we could finally get last Christmas to number one? Sadly I think it's too late

Last Christmas was a double A-side with the equally brilliant Everything She Wants-so whilst some might feel it's too late for Last Christmas there's nothing to stop us getting Everything She Wants to No.1.

I kind of hope Last Christmas never gets to number one otherwise it would lose its record of Biggest Selling Single In The UK To Never Reach No.1

RIP George that is no age at all. How very sad, this year has seen my youth dwindling away.

A message for y'all who loved him: The fact that you loved him before his going forward, be thankful that you at least have that. I didn't discover my newest favorite until it was too late, I love my late beautiful precious Billy Joe Royal SO much and I couldn't be anymore ashamed of myself for not being a fan of him sooner.

God bless you and his family and Michael's family always!!!

Holly

P.S. In other words, hang onto your history with all that you have because not everyone has one with their most favorite.

Indeed it is.I treated myself to a turntable last week and managed to find Last Christmas/Everything She Wants on eBay.

Took me 32 years mind but so glad I did now

It is very sad news that George Michael has died. I still think his Older album with hits such as Jesus To a Child and Fastlove was his best work. He had come out of that dispute with Sony and he seemed at one with himself. His image was sharp and modern for it's time.

I think this translated to his music as he seemed a lot more mature.

I feel the same so upset by his passing.

I can't help thinking why was he alone Christmas Eve and if he had woken up no one there to share the morning with.

Very sad

Well, he was going to spend Christmas Day with his boyfriend, who arrived in the morning and found him. He certainly didn't need to be on his own on Christmas Eve. I gather that he was currently self-conscious about his appearance because he had put on a bit of weight, so that may be why he preferred to stay in.

I'm still almost in denial about his death. It doesn't seem real that my idol since 1982 has gone. Most celebrity deaths don't really affect me that much but this has hit me hard. It's a shame so many people only seem to know or care about George's 80's/90's music and ignore his more recent work. 'Patience' is a great album, as is his beautiful duet with Mutya Buena - 'This Is Not Real Love', as well as 'An Easier Affair' and 'White Light.' I've never tired of listening to George's beautiful voice and music and I have recently been listening to him almost every day for the past few weeks, which made it all the more difficult when I heard the news on Christmas Day. He'd been on my mind so much lately. It almost feels spooky, that I'd been thinking about him so much and then I hear the news. I had certainly been wondering how he was, as there'd been no real news for sometime (apart from the forthcoming documentary release and LWP re-release) and I knew he hadn't been in the best of health, mentally or physically, in recent years. I've always been hoping that he'd suddenly surprise us all with a new album though, like Bowie did with The Next Day. The news of George's passing has hit me for six, more than any celebrity death this year or many a year (although I'm still upset about David Bowie, who I also loved). George meant a great deal to me. Btw, does anyone know if there are any planned tribute tv programmes on UK tv coming up on any channel?

spaceygirl, I know the music channels had tribute shows the past couple of days. I recorded a couple but haven't listened to/watched them yet - too raw.

BBC4 also had a couple of programmes last night - a TOTP- Wham!, a documentary and his Symphonica performance in Paris (2012). Again, I haven't been able to watch them but have recorded them. The BBC ones will be available on iPlayer.

as they didn't broadcast it, but stated it was a repeat and from 2008, i think it was perhaps an edited version of the "a different story" documentary that was sold at the 25 live shows. there is someone selling a copy of ebay but i think it will go for a fair sum. you may find a link online to watch. they may broadcast it at a later date

Thanks. I didn't realise it was a repeat of an original documentary which I never saw. I will see if I can find it online.
