I think we can safely assume either SOC's days are numbered as Executive Producer, or some drastic changes are needed, all this soft touch episodes just aren't working.

He's the best producer in 10+ years. He has completely turned the show around.

I disagree, SOC has breathed life into a show that was failing. 2017 is showing a lot of promise.

Without sounding like a broken record, I think he will be gone next year.
There is a little bit of hero worship for him on this forum. Literally a little bit.

I feel.most sorry for Rita Simmons and Samantha womack. But I suppose the BBC could have stopped him killing their characters as well, but didn't.

I think the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day episodes have been wonderful. Some lovely kisses to the past which we don't often get, and some real nice touches of community spirit - such a refreshing change. Alongside this we've also had the progression of multiple storylines as opposed to just a big focus on one particular one. I think both episodes have been nicely balanced - the episodes are shaping up to be best set of Christmas/New Year episodes in a long time.

The BBC would only step in to remove a producer if there was a dramatic fall in ratings (like there was under Kirkwood). The ratings are just fine under SOC, and in my opinion the quality is the most consistent its been in literally more than a decade. So what if people on social media have slated his work? They slate everything, and it's important to remember that they only represent a tiny portion of the millions of viewers who tune in each week.

I see more positivity for his changes than negativity. I'd sooner watch 100 episodes of this calibre than the rubbish that Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been putting out. Oh wow, who is Peter Barlow sleeping wi.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I think the people complaining more are just narcissists who love getting off on other people's misery and can't do it with the way EE has been lately.

BIB - That doesn't mean he'll be gone. DS is just a fraction of EE's audience, the BBC aren't going to listen to the opinions of a few people when there could be millions of others enjoying the show surely? Look at Kirkwood and Newman - I believe they didn't get very good reception on here but Kirkwood still lasted two years and Newman a year(?), so I'm pretty sure the opinion of 'us' (it's not actually everyone's opinion, I for one am loving the show and getting slightly annoyed at everybody on here 'speaking for everyone') is not going to matter one little bit.

This isn't a dig at you by the way, it's just your post had something in that I wanted to reply to.

Eastenders has not been this good for many, many years.

SOC is going nowhere.

I don't give a shit about what people on Twitter or Facebook say.

What's the matter. No sleazy affairs, no pointless violence, people acting like adults instead of badly behaved primary school children, viewers being treated like adults and not needing everything spelt out for them and signposted in neon lights......off with his head.

Corrie and Emmerdale are actually good. Hollyoaks is the best soap, although you are probably one of the Hollyoaks haters aren't you? I'm also guessing you are over 40?

"Safely assume".

I'm 22 and have watched all of the big 3/4 at one point. Hollyoaks has not always been dreadful and from what I hear of it now, it still has some good stories. BUT the level of sensationalism shown in it nowadays in absolutely ridiculous. It is all designed to target the short attention span of a teenager with constant murder and explosions. Judging from your posts it seems that you enjoyed the sensationalist crap (imo) that DTC churned out. I know you are entitled to your opinion, but soaps were at their peak when they focused on characters and weren't sensational. If SOC can take the show back to the era of the late 90s and early 00s (which is when he last worked there) then let me just tell you you're in for a treat HO14. And I hope you can come to love SOC's direction for EE as much as I do.

I have a feeling he used the rest of 2016 to 'decorate his home before he moves in' so to speak. Meaning now that he has everything where he wants it, he can now go on to get properly stuck in. I have a feeling that 2017 is gonna be a belter and that January will be EE firing on all cylinders.

I have no issues with people liking the show, im just sick of seeing posts ridiculing those that do. Its getting pathetic, there is no need for it to be so personal. Comments such as hero worship and brainwashed are uncalled for. The fact some posters are getting very aggresive with their posts makes me wonder why. Im enjoying the show but i dont have to ridicule those that dont. Its extremely immature and is creating a bad atmosphere on here.
