Would a new comedy play by Stoppard/Ayckbourn/Godber have been enjoyed by anyone?

I thought today was brilliant by comparison
Full afternoon and early evening of live football and racing Then I've got loads of stuff circled on the main channels - University Challenge, The Entire Universe, Outnumbered, Big Fat Quiz of the Year, Royal Institution Christmas Lecture, Bob Monkhouse's Last Stand............ Famine followed by Feast Outnumbered..... although it was only really funny for me when the kids were young, mainly Karen. Captain Phillips...... film on ITV, doesn't look bad. Thats it for me as i only have Freeview. |

Christmas Day TV every year is fantastic for me, especially as BBC put some of their highest rated shows on, but the only downside for me is that these are on when I am spending time with family, and spending the whole evening watching TV.
I now usually spend most of my TV viewing time between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve catching up on TV from Christmas Day and Boxing Day (I'm also with family tonight). I will, through BBC iplayer or ITV Hub, catch up on Doctor Who, Strictly, Mrs Brown's Boys, Emmerdale, Paul O'Grady: For the love of dogs, and Coronation Street. You may moan though that the schedule is not to your taste, but BBC tries the hardest to win the ratings battle, by putting their highest rated shows on. ITV know not to compete because BBC seem to win every year. |

It was our personal preference. All we saw was what BBC1 or BBC 2 had on - just our opinion, but BBC do put on a far superior selection of programmes to watch, compared to any commercial channel.
We thoroughly enjoyed Frozen, GBBO, SCD Doctor Who, CTM, MBB and Victorian Bakers. We cannot abide any soap - just us - we gave up about 20 odd years ago. We do wish people would remember, that whatever one watches on TV is a personal preference |

BBC1 needs a real shake up, it's been stuck in the same rut now for over 10 years.

Doctor Who was great viewing and we also watched Yonderland (on Sky) recorded from Christmas Eve when we were out which (if you've been following the series) was lots of fun. Jungle Book and Zootropolis were our films, interspersed with University Challenge. Probably the most TV we've watched all year.

Sat down at the start of Frozen, did a bit of cooking during Bake Off, but otherwise didn't move until the end of Call The Midwife. Absolutely nothing to moan about as far as I'm concerned but then I don't feel the need to impress anyone with my cool negativity (what I like to call wearisome whinging).

Eastenders was wonderful, not sensationalist, it was warm, nostalgic, and cheerful, everyone in the pub sing songs etc.. Dot's Xmas eve story was hard hitting, raw and emotional and above all real and made you think of the elderly this time of year.
If you are a fan of 80s Eastenders go watch xmas eve and xmas day episodes on i player. i was a fan of 80's eastenders, i liked the mix of characters, i liked some, liked to dislike others, i really dont think the current cast can compare tbh. |

I did not switch the television on for one minute during Christmas Day. Such a liberating experience. I recommend it.

I was trapped in a room with a TV with the colour balance all wrong, displaying first the nauseating and utterly horrible Singing In The Rain, followed by the ridiculously twee and saccharine Call The Midwife. That's my idea of hell and I ended up with tissue paper in my ears, reading My Fat Mad Teenage Diary on my phone (having to flick the pages over every two seconds), because that's the only book I have on it.

Only watched Bake Off, Doctor Who and Strictly. Enjoyed Doctor Who, though die-hard fans don't appear to have been impressed. The other two shows were passable I suppose, but Strictly in particular didn't seem as good as previous "special".
But with movies and box sets so easily available, is " ordinary" TV still such a big part of our lives over the Christmas period ? |

Nothing much on BBC or ITV for me, yet I think the scheduling was good. Very popular reality shows, big movie premiere, sitcom, soaps, detective, period drama, music show.
Personally I HATE Mrs Brown's Boys. Oh how I long for the days when Only Fools & Horses, One Foot in the Grave and Vicar of Dibley put out their annual special. |
