Sorry but apart from Lee getting arrested at the very end nothing happened which made the episode drag. 30 minutes would've been more suitable.

ive taken to watching on iplayer, anyone moves towards a musical device i skip it, contrived pub stuff i skip it. i especially appreciated this function during the Nativity stuff the other day, and the play
not gonna bash it tho, clearly alot of people on here enjoy it. just means my viewing experience is somewhat shorter :P |

I thought it was a fabulous episode almost like an old school episode.. and very upbeat which was a nice change.
People talking about "not a lot happening" but it doesn't have to. Surely it's to Eastenders benefit to not have a death or stunt every year? |

Agreed. 1 hour was too long. All that could have gone in 3O minutes without feeling dragged. I do think the episode would have probably been better received if it had. Let's be honest it's not one of those Xmas episodes that viewers will remember in 5 years time but I do think the quality could have been tighter if they focused more on the central plots. The festive cheer would have worked as supporting sub plot rather a focal point like it felt yesterday.

Everything has to be community oriented with SOC. He's obsessed with showing everyone together and having the camera pan from one to the next in an oddly mannered way. It just feels like watching something quite stilted and it just doesn't feel as realistic as it used to.

It was nice in my opinion, but then again, we all have different expectations from the soap.

All the soaps should have just been their normal half hr, as all were terrible, just nothing happened, no deaths, killings, nowt, never known it before, got to be a first for all 3 of them that on their Christmas Day episodes..

Reminded me of Xmas '86 without the big ending. I loved the community feel. Much better than last year's tripe.

It did drag, and felt as if there was plenty of padding material though could have been edited out.
Even Max's on-screen return was a damp squib, having seen it (in full) in the trailer. I thought that at the very least there would have been something more from him than what was shown in that trailer. |

I loved EastEnders last night.
It's become a more credible version of what it used to be. Annual stunts and devastation is so contrived. Leave that sort of thing to Emmerdale and Hollyoaks. |

You don't need stunts and devastation for drama, but you do need some dramatic elements and maybe a few shocks or surprises.

All you need for drama is two characters talking to each other. You don't need much else if It's written well.

You can't please anyone on this forum. It was the best Christmas episode in years. It was nostaligic, cheery, warm but also dramatic. A Lot better than Corries rubbish too if I've got to compare it. 2016 looks to be brilliant. The show feels very fresh.
