Sky Store movie Resolution?
Can anyone tell me if the movies are in 1080p or 1080i? Or Is it just the same quality as the ones on sky cinema?

1080i, but 1080i50 and 1080P25 are the same quality anyway - and depending on the actual compression used, could well be EXACTLY the same.

Blu-Ray's are 1080p 24Hz.
It isn't the resolution that hurts Sky's content. It is the lack of bitrates more so the darker colours. Banding and dancing blocks near black. Or worse, sometimes the compression is so bad they've crushed the shadow detail so you cannot see what is going on in the shadows. |

All output from Sky is 1080i50, even the OnDemand and Sky Store downloads. (If using HD of course)

Unless you have Sky Q...which gives 1080p or higher but not sure of the refresh rate tbh.

UHD does yes, but HD no
HD @ 1080p seems better compared to 1080i on Sky+HD. What did you mean? This isn't a criticism...I'm just not sure what your post implies...? |

UHD is delivered on SkyQ in progressive yes (2160p) and the box has the ability to convert 1080i HD to 1080p HD but the HD on Sky both broadcast and ondemand (CatchUpTV and Sky Store etc) is all still 1080i

So how close are sky store movies to blu rays for PQ?
But it's still pretty damn good ![]() Interestingly, after the bit-rate crippling of the BBC HD channel, by FAR the best quality HD was a channel that basically showed nice places (can't remember what it was called?). This channel though used one of the lowest bit-rates out there, but because all their output (what little there was of it) was pre-compressed the quality was absolutely stunning. No doubt someone (with a better memory) will be along shortly to remind us what the channel was called

I watched Jungle Book on Sky+HD, thought the PQ was great.

Some are a lot better than others while most aren't equal.

Was thinking of getting jurrasic park boxset which is 13.99 with my free gift from sky. I still think sky should be sending blu rays instead of dvds. I've not watched a dvd for a few years.

If they sent you Blu-Ray it would show how inferior Sky's Movie picture quality and sound would be. So they wouldn't do it.

Nigel, I think the channel you're referring to was called "Luxe". I wasn't really that interested in the content, but I watched it occasionally on my first HD tv just because of the quality.
![]() When BBC HD went crap we switched to using Luxe as a shop demo. |

It's not as good as BD, as BD isn't compressed in real time, which broadcasts are.
