why is it this forum so negative about EE been on and off past year after having 3 year break.

5 years ago this was so much better.

I find a lot of the threads hilarious people criticising a soap not just EE when it hasn't even finished yet.

Shame it's changed a lot on here

Yes its getting beyond a joke now esp as a lot of posters will tell you they only watch and post so they can be negative.

There are a lot lf posters who are negative but do post good stuff. Unfortunately it gets lost.

Somebody starting a thread titled EE Christmas Episode Cringey 7 minutes into the start of the episode.

I know people like to whinge for the sake of it but at least wait until the episode has finished before writing the whole episode off as cringey

All of the soaps got panned here last night, Emmer was a bit boring but OK, Corrie I thought was good, some comedy, some tense bits, a good balance I did watch a bit of EE as hubby was watching, and it looked OK, like the xmas EE's of old

It seems to be the cool thing these days to call for soaps to be cancelled and to slag them off, remember that posters here are such a small percentage of actual fans that it really doesnt matter that much what people say.

Thats true, DS recently did an end of year awards thingy. The results were shocking cos I had done a thread and based on what ppl had put and the general forum views were nit reflected in the vites frim the main soap section of the site.

I get bored seeing the forum filled with ee threads all debating either something mundane or ten threads about the sane thing. Can we have an "ee moans" pinned thread and stop with the:
Soc not liking his work
Soc is destroying ee
Not liking ee today
Which seen to be half the forum

I know what you mean nothing you can do it about too much love for the show on here, I just let them get on with it. What gets me is when people over analyse it, just watch it and embrace it for what it is. I'm of the opinion that if a show is no longer enjoyable anymore better to take a break or just stop watching because as much as we complain we can't change anything other than our own actions or responses.

I'm by no means the forum police. It just irks me seeing so many threads on the same thing. Ee for some reason seems to be the worst for it.

I think its always been this way. Search for random characters and soaps throughout the last 15 years in thread titles.

"Slaters dominating EE"
"When will this boring gangster era in EE end"
"DTC too sensational"
"SOC too boring"
"Santer is ridiculas Darren and Heather really"

It has always been OTT negative. I joined back in 2004 and the soap wars back then were negative (but at least they were funny and had humour within) so I think it's just a forum thing.

It seems cattier and nastier these days. It seemed more panto a few years back

Its becoming like a playground of who can scream the loudest and play top dog, it will be what ultimately drives good members away.

It is a bit maddening, when I go off a soap I stop watching and stop posting about same with any programme. But some well one person in particular always joins the Emmy threads to post how ee is best, well great watch that and let those who prefer Emmy to enjoy posting about that ! But that would be no fun I guess any other part of the forum there is a word for members like that.

The soap forum seems to go through phases of slagging off each of the soaps, at the moment it's Eastenders.

IMO its exceptionally negative at the moment more so than I remember in the last 10 years. I wouldn't be a huge contributor but an avid reader and the sense of fun has definitely gone from the place- hopefully it will return. On a positive note 😁 I watch Corrie and EE and find both very enjoyable

I remember your thread nothing you said made me think you didn't accept anyone's opinion and it's really not on to abuse you, that really is someone not accepting your opinion. I wonder if they realise what accepting an opinion actually means.

Hear hear. I stopped watching EE and Corrie when I stopped enjoying them. I go on some of their threads though as the seriousness with which so many people take them is quite funny at times, eg the current threads about the recasting of Michellle in EE

How can people post about EE and not be negative? I suppposd they could ignore what is infront of their faces. That would be the only way

We're here to give our opinion, no? If our experience is a negative one when we sit down and watch it, why is it 'wrong' to comment on that?

Emmerdale is utter shite at the moment and has been all year, so I'm going to say so. Should I bite my tongue and lie, stating how great it is, just so the forum has a better 'feel' to it?

A few years ago Emmerdale was either getting slated on here or completely ignored (dominated by EastEnders), and I fiercely defended it and was always debating others on why I think it's so good etc. but 2016 has been awful for it, and as much as I love the show, I'm not a blind follower; I can and will still call it out when I think it's awful.

There's been absolutely nothing to shout about on the show except Ashley's storyline.

It's very easy to say 'well don't watch then' but when you've committed years and years to a show, and you sit down and watch three hours of it a week, it's not that simple.

I gave up on the other soaps years ago because they were crap, but Emmerdale is different for me, doesn't mean I'm not going to call out all the things I think is wrong with it, though.
The reason I'm critical of it is because I'm passionate about it and want to it be good. The cast is great and the potential is there but they really haven't got much right this year.

It doesn't help that the show is winning awards, especially 'Best Soap' because it justifies the direction they've gone in... but then maybe I'm in the minority and the majority have been loving the show.

Just because someone isn't enjoying a show does not mean they are being negative. It's a forum designed to express opinion/discussion.

If people can't handle criticism they should use Walford Web which is specifically for fans.

I will always praise a soap where I think it's due, and I have always praised all 3 soaps on here. I will also say if I am not enjoying it and I won't say 'It was superb' if that wasn't what I thought.

I love everything about the Fowler family and Michelle's return is the cherry on the cake

I love Denise throwing herself into education at this stage in her life.

I love seeing Patrick and Dot being more prominent. Fabulous characters and actors.

I love Billy having his family back and being boss of his own business.

And I love Whitney having a big s/l after being shoved in the background for years.

That's enough for me for now.

Nice post lou and I agree completely. It's called being objective and some can't seem to understand it. I've been a Corrie fan throughout my life and have always had respect for the show and its history - but I know when it's at its best and when it's in the doldrums. EastEnders was far, far superior to Corrie last night and I have no problem with stating that.
