She tweeted: “Do you really want to hurt me? I guess you do 2016 #ripboygeorge I was truly one of your biggest fans.”

Her fans were quick to point out her mistake and Sarah later deleted her original post.

In its place, she wrote:”Just as sad when you get the correct information- #ripGeorgeMichael.
Okay this is just embarrassing. It's nice she wanted to show her respects but it's clear she wasn't a fan so why bother? Just because everyone else is tweeting about it doesn't mean everyone should jump on the bandwagon.

They don't call it trending for no reason...

She probably just heard George and straight away thought it was Boy George who had died. I suppose anyone can make a mistake.

It is sad though so many thinking making a mistake is a crime or stupid when it isn't. What is when you continually make the same mistakes. After all how do you learn...

this is an irritation of mine these days, celebs and to be honest just regular friends on facebook are falling over themselves to get in there first with their rip's but the reality is there probably not that bothered as this proves you should really be checking the facts in these kinds of situations

Not anybody that is "truly one of someone's biggest fans". When Richard Attenborough died I only heard Attenborough and thought David (I'm a huge fan) but didn't jump on Twitter or Facebook or even DS wailing and crying about it. It took five seconds on google. In fact when reading a thread on here yesterday about Eastenders and someone mentioned George Michael dying I thought bloody hell has there been that many deaths that this one passed me by? Took me five seconds on google to find out. It's just embarrassing for her

I find that quite disrespectful. She should have made sure she knew the facts before she tweeted her stupid attention seeking post.

In a world that cares about facts? You're having a laugh. You watch the news, not a lot of truth there.

Stupid woman. I know we all make mistakes but this incessant need for people to get on twitter to offer their one liners when anyone dies. Just shows how superficial it really all is.

I really wish people & especially celebs in general would think before they post...

Stupid woman... SMG no-one is interested in a has-been diva trying to revive their flagging career...

Just for some context here, her latest tv show failed to make it to air in the US... three flops for buffy... just let it die already, very embarrassing now.

I'm more interested as to why she likes boy George? He's not that talented IMO and a vile perve from my personal experience.

I don't even know who she is. But it's alright. She's made it so as a silly twitter.

If I remember correctly someone mistook George Michael for Michael Jackson when he died in 2009.

Why the rush to post? Spend a few minutes to let the news sink in and maybe listen to a few of his records.

Absolutely! Anyone can..... ANYONE..!

I find that quite disrespectful. She should have made sure she knew the facts before she tweeted her stupid attention seeking post.
How is it attention seeking? She Tweeted to her Twitter Followers, that's how it works. Well over half a million of us.

Stupid woman. I know we all make mistakes but this incessant need for people to get on twitter to offer their one liners when anyone dies. Just shows how superficial it really all is.
Stupid yourself! Now go and report me to the Forum moderators; it's alright for you to call someone stupid but not for someone else to call you stupid, is it? Even if that someone else is an SMG fan sticking up for her.

I really wish people & especially celebs in general would think before they post...

I don't know you but you seem to be a bitter, malicious sour sort of person. As I've already said, she was Tweeting to her hundreds of thousands of Twitter Followers. No more, no less.

I'm trying to decide whether you're malicious and sour because you've had too much to eat over the holiday period and are feeling sick, or whether you are naturally unpleasant.

Now go and report me to the Forum moderators for defending someone who isn't here to stick up for herself.

I have never even heard of her, I guess it has worked as now I know the name if not the person by reading here.
You know the name of a successful actress and successful businesswoman who made an unfortunate error in a Tweet she made to her hundreds of thousands of Followers. on Twitter.

Sarah Michelle Gellar's error on Twitter was a mistake made by someone who is just as human and prone to error as the rest of us. This thread should gently poke fun or mildly ridicule her for it, in a totally non-malicious way. Unfortunately people seem to be using it as an excuse to be really unpleasant and vile to someone who isn't around to defend herself. These sorts of forum posts just rebound on the posters as they show them to be the nasty ones and no one else.

Agree. It does smack of wanting so desperately to be the first to post the news that the small point of getting her facts right passed her by.

Wow.

SMG made a mistake on Twitter and you make personal attacks on her?

That's just embarrassing.

For what it's worth, I'm interested.

It's not so much that she made a mistake ... it's that she used a song lyric as a sort of pun. That's what makes her tweet inappropriate. It's just naff.
She's embarrassed though and has been caned by the Twitterati so lesson learned I expect. She'll check her facts in future.
Her #rip tweet about the right George seemed a bit lame and tacked on.
Think before you tweet ... I wish people would (though I don't use Twitter ... it's too cringe inducing!)
