Free downloads are prompting me with popup for my password followed by the buy or cancel dialog.
Had this installing the Playstation apps. I only have the password set for purchases. |

HDMI, check that you're actually dealing with APPLE.
Sounds like a scam operation to me. |

This is one of two things;
1. A routine security check on the account. If this is the case you will be asked to confirm payment card details (usually expiry date and security code) rather than updating them. This is just to confirm it is you using the account. It’s a little odd they do this on free downloads / updates but they do. 2. There’s an outstanding balance on the account due to a declined card. If this is the case you’ll need to clear the outstanding balance by entering card details before you can make any more purchases (including free downloads) If it’s the first one and you really don’t want to confirm the card details then can remove the payment card from your account. You’ll be able to complete free downloads then. |

If you go into your account properties there is an option to set your payment type to "none".
-edit- As mentioned in the previous post, if you already have a card linked to the account and have made previous purchases it is just for a security check. |

Because. technically, it's still a payment. Even though the cost is zero, it still goes through the payment system and it will email you a receipt for £0.00.
The only time I get an email from Apple is for true purchases. |
