Do you still have a desktop?
Morning all
The other day I fired up the pc and was greeted with a windows 7/hard drive failure message and had to reinstall the OS and I thought to myself do I really need a pc? I go on the web and generally watch Netflix, amazon prime on my iPad.My printer has wifi so I don't even need a pc for that. The only thing I can't do on my iPad is bit torrent and I probably haven't used that for 6 or so weeks? Anyone desktop free? |

i've got 5 desktops, a server and 4 laptops. They don't get used as much as the phones but there is still a lot that phones, tablets, media devices can't do

i still have my desktop, which is my main machine, I do video editing as a hobby, or will do when i get some more time to video stuff, so I need desktop, also i like the larger screen, going to update it next year.
I have got a Nexus 7 tablet, which I use to cast stuff to my chrome cast, but that is about all I use it for these days and also a laptop, which I have not touched for months. Oh yeah and my Kobo ebook reader, not really a tablet as such, but something i do use a lot. |

It depends on what you use a computer for I suppose.

I have an iMac (if you can class it as a desktop?) and I wouldn't use anything else. By that I'm not saying I wouldn't use Windows, I have a Windows PC as well - I just couldn't use a laptop as my main unit.

I live on my desktop.
I have a large desk and a very comfortable, padded office chair, which I lay back in after a hard day at work and relax in. I have a 27" touchscreen monitor (although I never use the touch screen), my PC runs Windows 10, it's as fast as lightning, holds over 6TB and I do everything on it from playing loud music over the high quality speakers, to video editing, to designing websites and playing some powerful games such as GTA V. I can watch full HD videos on it, but unlike a TV, I have full control over video content, so I could save it to my external hard drive, edit it or even browse the web while a video's playing in another window. I couldn't imagine life without my PC. It's the mother of all my little gadgets and the centre of my technology world. I have tablets and smartphones, but they're vastly inferior children's devices in comparison, useful only for playing games and light browsing on the go. My elderly parents abandoned their desktops years ago unfortunately. Now though they're forever asking me to download something online for them (so that it can be saved to an external hard drive) or put images or music on their iPads for them or edit some old photos using Photoshop or to play a YouTube video on my PC because it won't work on a mobile device. |

You can't beat a desktop.
I have a tablet, and it's great for casual surfing, but for anything else a large screen and proper keyboard and mouse are best.

I have 3 main desktops set up, that still get used daily. My main system is a desktop and I wouldn't replace it with anything else. I also have an old PowerMac G5 that I'm using as a server, but looking to retire it soon in favour of a spare desktop PC running Linux.
I own several Tablets, which are good for light web browsing type stuff, as well as 4 Laptops (1 is ancient, hardly used) - good for portability, but too limiting for heavy usage type stuff (ie. a lot of Image or Video editing & encoding). Several other desktops in the house have been repurposed into HTPCs however, with mouse/keyboard replaced by a Remote Control and a Phone App. |

I can not use laptops for any length of time, screen too small, keyboards are normally awful. |

No I have a MacBook and an iPad. No need for a big bulky desktop. Most of the things I need to do can be done on my phone.

Binned desktops probably 5 or more years ago, along with all the clutter that goes along with them and wouldn't give it the house room these days.
Got a couple of Ultrabooks and a Chromebook now, oh and a bunch of SBCs. Given up on Tablets too over the last couple of years as a pointless fad, especially since Smartphones have appeared in proper sizes |

But the text is very small, and you have to be very precise when clicking a link etc. Not a comfortable experience. My 10" tablet is fine though. |

But I have and use a decent smart phone for all the 'little things'. Horses for courses. |

I guess you won't be wanting to convert a 45GB 4K video file to 1080p then, as I had to do last night, or any intensive browsing/searching for stuff which is much easier and faster on a desktop/mouse combination, dual or triple 27 inch monitors can be useful too. Desktops have their uses for some of us.

I wouldn't consider using anything other than a desktop PC. For one thing, they are ergonomically designed to prevent posture-induced injuries that you will inevitable get from using a laptop. The idea of going back to the days of watching TV on a small screen seems absurd and if I my only option was to view films and TV programmes on anything less than a 32" screen I probably wouldn't bother. Trying to use web forums on a phone is so horrible that I simply wait until I'm back home with my PC.

Do you still have a desktop?
Tablets are very good for leisure use and I wouldn't be without one now but I still have a desktop PC and mouse for proper work which is much more efficiently done on a PC. |

I certainly couldn't use anything without a mouse. In spite of predictions of its demise, I can't imagine anything that performs the task any better. I would certainly never buy a touch-screen computer, although they seem to have died out anyway.

Haven't owned one since I graduated. I also always use a mouse, couldn't get used to the touchpad in ten years.

I can't see myself without a tablet now despite only having had mine since Christmas, (I'm even typing this reply using my tablet!) but retain my laptop for more serious non-leisure work.
