Most people now want to remain in the European Union in parts of the UK that voted overwhelmingly for Brexit, according to opinion surveys by several different local newspapers.

The Wolverhampton-based Express and Star newspaper became the fourth outlet to publish results showing a complete U-turn in public opinion on Saturday, with 60 per cent of respondents saying they would now vote to stay in the EU.

Three other regional publications in the north east and the West Midlands recorded similar findings.

Wait till the exit terms are known

Did you actually read the article which debunks these polls as they are not proper opinion polls based on statistically robust representative samples but are just self selecting respondents. Some are online polls where they cant even tell if people completing them even live locally or even in the UK.

Really you might expect better from the Independent - but it has so lost any sense of impartiality on Brexit it has just become a pro remain cheerleader with no sense of objectivity anymore.

We had a vote in June - a once in a generation vote as were told - of 34 million people. It's not going to be overturned by online click polls in a few local newspapers which could be as likely to be completed by someone in Helsinki as Hartlepool.

I think the Independent are still hoping all Brexit voters die before March.

As the article makes clear - at the end - with comments from polling experts these aren't even proper opinion polls - just online click polls mostly You see in papers all the time.

The 'who do you want to win Celebrity big brother click here' variety.

Yeah and Mr Gobble now only half the turkey he was is somewhat regretting his acceptance of my invitation to join us for Christmas Dinner...the pheasants currently feeding in my garden are starting to demand to see the small print on my New Year invites as a result

All I want to know is when I can get my proper British passport back instead of the 'papers' issued by Germany via the EU.

I suspect that they didn't Putin an extra factor to their predictions...

Was I - I never take any notice of these voodoo online polls as being serious and they are just a bit of fun and mean nothing,

What has changed? Let me guess?

May 2015 - all the polls predicted a hung parliament with Miliband as PM but we got a Tory majority
June 2016 - 75 per cent of the final polls predicted a remain win by up to 10 per cent but leave won
November 2016 - all the polls predicted Clinton would win the electoral college but Trump won

We can debate proper polls but those voodoo polls referenced in the article aren't even proper statistical polls at all.

Is Opinion Survey the new 'Poll'? No one trusts polls so let's rename it.......

It's funny how many times some remainers have attempted to tell us the public have changed their mind. We were told on the 24th of June that people regretted their vote and then virtually weekly since then. But where's the millions of people on the roads protesting??.

A few newspapers trying to make a name for themselves and remainers naturally are easily led.

It is too late. These people cast their vote, made their decision, and as a wise woman once said, Brexit means Brexit. What ever that means!

As I said elsewhere, the utter stupidity of this decision becomes more apparent day after day.

Absolute nonsense, OP. Pretend polls and 'surveys' for the Remainers' fantasy world.
Need to try harder than that.

I don't get why Remainers fail to understand what went on.

We had a clear choice. Remain or Leave.

The majority of those who took the time to vote, voted Leave. That's it. No voting again

just because the minority don't like the result of a democratic vote .

This constant carping is as boring as hell.

Get over it.

Remainers do understand what went on. Most of them aren't carping about it, or pressing for a second vote. It would be interesting though if a lot of Leavers were changing their minds, but we'll never know for sure.

No evidence they are at all - more in fact remainers accepting the result and backing Brexit cos that's what the UK voted for.

If I remember correctly one poll did predict a Tory majority but it wasn't made public at the time because those that conducted it were convinced that it was wrong, because other polls were predicting a hung Parliament.

Jonathan Pie was onto something imo when he mentioned people not being honest when polled because they were scared of being ridiculed (or worse) for their choice.

This sums up the lunacy of Brexiteers, to be upset that their passport has EU on the cover. How does that affect anyone's life or disadvantages anyone?

Indeed. Some of them seem to think that we're still at war with Germany.

Why does the EU feel the need to control which passport I have? I thought it was supposed to be all about 'trade' ? They have taken away so many of our freedoms.

I guess the tattoo parlours will be full of remnants demanding 'EU 4 ever' tats for their knuckles and forheads. Oh hum....

It 's about trade and free movement. What freedoms have we lost? I can't think of any.

The freedom to have a blue passport without European Union written on it?

Pretty sure it was Theresa May who said that, and she doesn't have a clue.

Thought that would be the "Brexiteers", whose tattoos keeping wearing out from all the knuckle dragging.

Those Brexiteers who are so anti-EU, they named themselves after French characters. #Dumas.
