the only thing the Government can guarantee is subsidies (at taxpayers' expense) should the Single Marker no longer be accessible.
it seems that the people of Sunderland have realised that:
1) staying in the Single Market or not is not in the Government''s powers to decide
2) subsidies , if given, would be needed for ever, by definition
3) see under 'British Leyland'
