Married With Children
When MWC was shown in the UK did they broadcast the Peggy Wan ker and Wan ker County episodes?

It would have been in the early 90's on Sky, pretty sure I saw the Wa nker episodes but I've seen then several times in Germany so it's hard to tell
Despite what DS think it's not really an offensive word and unlikely to offend anyone particularly as it wasn't being used in that context The episode itself is interesting as in the US the word doesn't have that connotation so why was the name being used as a joke ? |

Yep, they showed the Wakner County episodes and Peg's relatives, the twins etc, were fairly regular visitors for a while

ITV showed the series but it was a regional show so how many series you got depended on where you lived. Central seemed to like the series and showed up to the end of season six. They were all uncut and usually in decent slots about 23.00. Other itv regions only got a few series and some regions aired it in middle of the night slots.

Sky did cut the series very badly. It aired at 18.30 and there were several minutes missing from many episodes including all references to peggys surname. I watched them as I had not seen the later series but enjoyed them better on dvd uncut years later

the word is not offensive as it depends on the context its used, if you say i am or you are a .... then its not allowed but say my name is or my maiden name is then its fine. many words are bad if its in wrong context, there are a lot of 4 letter words that begin with the C word yet is banned to say that in uk yet peoples surname has that in other countries.

HTV were one of the first to show it, after a sitcom about a record company with some fit brunette, who had been in something else. They aired it 1.35 on Sunday mornings. Those and Night Network, three great things about 24 HR HTV
And yes, it was unedited.

Central didnt air MWC until late 1989 but only showed it in blocks of six episodes until the the end of 1991 when they reached the end of season two. It was shown weekly through 1992 and 1993 with the last few episodes of season six in mid 1994 and then that was it. I dont think any ITV region went beyond season six which ended with the three part london episode where England was portrayed as it was in the seventeenth century!!!!

And yes, it was unedited.![]() The record company sitcom was probably 'Throb'...featuring a pre Frasier Jane Leeves. Am sure I watched an episode of Mork and Mindy where a character, might've been called Leo W anker (?) was mentioned which surprised me a bit but made me . Sort of thing Robin Williams would deliberately slip in, I reckon.eta Oh yeah! Leo W was Paul Hogan! Still sure there was a Something W in M&M though....eta (again) GIYF. A Mr W etc did turn up in M&M. |
