"christmas'' was already a pagan festival, which was ''upgraded'', after roman emperor Constantine converted the roman empire to christianity, from paganism. But, to look that up, u need an internet connection. Which God doesn't have, of course ......
You mean god has been giving it large all this time and doesnt even realise he is the wrong deity? For shame....

All the values which the different religions teach about "treating others as you would want to be treated". etc. yet from 14th December - 4th January people die - young, old, celebrity, normal. Sometimes in devastating unforeseen circumstances. What is he playing at

Can't we just have a mass cull in mid January then return to normal? Does he not take a holiday to celebrate? If he does, maybe that is why these atrocities happen Should there not be a deputy God? Is that not what the angels are for?

If anyone can answer sensibly please do.
If you believe in a Christian God then death shouldn't be seen as a bad thing. Heaven's really nice, all told.

Alternatively there is no God, and our calendar is also man-made.

What we do know is that for thousands of years different people have worshipped different 'gods' from the Romans:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Roman_deities

The ancient Greeks

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ures#Immortals

all sorts of different gods, and yet people are so convinced that their gods as Muslims and Christians are 'the' god.

They can't all be right, so the sensible approach to take would be to suggest that it is a human condition to invent gods or believe in stories told down the years, or that people have learned that they can seize power through selling the story of god, for some it is a good living and a social circle, it gives people comfort and a sense of belonging.

Essentially people believe what they are taught by elders as they grow up, and if they are pushed into religion from a young age it has a large impression on them. I personally think all religion should be strongly discouraged and that the law should say that religious studies should be taught from a sceptical viewpoint and teach people to question and look at the the other sociological reasons why others believe in religion. I also think Children shouldn't have god pushed on them by their parents.

Some of the 'threats' for not believing are truly cruel, you'll go to hell, this will happen, that will happen. As a Muslim if you turn your back on religion you'd be an outcast from your family, it is a dirty rotten practice and we need more people to open people's eyes and encourage critical thinking.
Not sure what that has to do with my post. I'm certainly not going to disagree with what you said, but it's still not proof of a God, lack of one....or a deity that has power to choose who live or dies.

Read the Torah, the OT or the Quran OP.

Any notion of that (thankfully fictional) entity being anything but a sadistic, childish brutal and psychopathic desert monster will very soon evaporate.

Not surprising really - Bronze age goat herders did not know any better after all.
Wow. I'm a Christian and a fairly intelligent, rational one and yet I am being dismissed along with bronze age goat herders.. You cannot prove the existence of God anymore than I can prove His existence to you. The God I personally experience is the opposite of all you have described but if that is your belief, then good luck to you.

I said our calendar, not yours, and ours is man-made. Get your own calendar!

I think a lot of it is to do with the stress associated with the build up to Christmas and Christmas itself.

That's a logical answer, but I'm afraid your post is not logical.

Don't forget the argument that runs along the lines of "if people suddenly stopped dying every Christmas, that would prove that God exists and there would be no need for faith".

Or something like that.

In the UK more people die around Christmas than the rest of the year, probably due to the cold weather. I expect the opposite to be true in Australia, so perhaps God is Australian?

Or something like that.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
A time to be born and a time to die,

No such thing as God. End of thread.

Very brave of you

Just wanted to say well done Abigail before you disappear, having got got bored with the one dimensional caricature of Christianity that is so often paraded on these threads.
