New Computer Setup problems
My Mum got a Lenovo ideapad for Christmas but on trying to set it up for her the keyboard will not respond at all. After restarting a few times it will but then just random number will appear in blank boxes meant for email addresses etc. I have restarted several times but can't seem to figure out whats going on.
Has anyone had experience on this or able to advise whats going on/how to sort? Thanks |

Have you got an external USB keyboard you can connect?
It sounds like it has a fault, so it may be a case of taking it back. |

I think yours is a driver issue. If the following process does no help, then hardware problem:
Open Device Manager, if you're using windows, click Start, right click on My Computer, and select Properties. Now click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button. Or you can search by clicking Start, then type Device Manager, and press ENTER. Next find your keyboard name under Keyboards. Right click it and select Uninstall. When it is uninstalled, click Action, then click Scan for hardware changes. This will re-install the driver and may help fix the problem. If it doesn't work, you then need to try to figure out if it is a hardware problem. |

If you are going to start giving advice you need to start reading the original post more carefully. He can't even get past the setup screens, let alone to Device Manager.
The only thing in Talukdar_Shaheb's post that he probably cannot try is this bit "...Or you can search by clicking Start, then type Device Manager, and press ENTER..." as it involves the keyboard, but the rest of the post involves only the mouse pad. |

Sounds to me like one end of the keyboard's ribbon cable isn't seated in its connector properly.
