Coronation Street on ITV was the top soap on Christmas Day with 6.1 million viewers, while BBC's EastEnders had 5.9 million and Emmerdale secured 4.7 million, also on ITV.

Not surprising given it had the primetime 8pm slot.

Is that just for the first itv showing or the plus 1 figures?

But they are really poor figures all round.

No idea why they put ED or EE on at ridiculous times

despite a much lower audience share as well! Considering the audience share of all ITV shows were poor last night shows just what a great rating this was, up against one of the BBC's best rated shows CTM too. Well done Corrie!!!

Ah, classic EastEnders fans always making excuses as to why they are not good when it comes to ratings. If the show was so perfect it would do better, but clearly nobody is interested.

Oh so Corrie had more viewers but EE had a bigger audience share

28.1% v 26.5% for corrie.

But I think ratings should be taken with a pinch of salt nowadays, I mean how are they even accurate.

I enjoyed what I watched. Hopefully with christmas being monday next year we will get reasonable times for all three.

Tho in the ratings thread folk are suggesting ED at 5:10 and corrie at 6:10 and stupidly early times like that.

Oh and ratings seem really low across all shows not just the soaps

Emmerdale had a poor early slot. Emmerdale deserves better The soap didn't even get a Christmas Eve episode. Terrible from ITV

Emmerdale done well for its time slot, not that I care much for ratings

Well done Corrie, even if I'm not a fan.
I find the whole Toyal/Peter Barlow thing ridiculous.

Corrie had a slight advantage though as it was in it's normal timeslot.
EastEnders being scheduled for 9:30 was a bit late I thought, but then again BBC probably aren't arsed about the ratings war, as they usually win overall.

One thing is clear from the numbers for the soaps.
A lot of people prefer catch up tv.

I'd say at least another 2 million viewers for both Corrie and EastEnders.
Both did very well, very little between them.

I'm surprised the ratings weren't lower as it is Christmas Day.

I was having the Christmas dinner at 6pm, and then spending the evening with family, so the house was a TV free zone. Plus, for those who did watch TV, think of the battles:

1. Doctor Who v Emmerdale
2. Call the Midwife v Coronation Street
3. EastEnders v Maigret

But the thing is on Christmas DAY families are all together watching TV shows and not at home watching them from their TVs so Christmas Ratings aren't that much of a bother as more people will be watching round 1 TV.

Corrie even gets more viewers when its terrible, so I dont think that means much.

Overall, I think Corrie was good, Emmerdale and EastEnders weren't as good

Do they have a team of monkey's working the calculators? There were harsh words for it on another thread and the forum is never wrong. Monkey's or no Monkeys.

Corrie was also the most watched soap last year aswell.

EastEnders stopped being iconic at Christmas years ago. The last time it received a high Christmas audience was 2012.

New Years seems to be their thing now, which makes sense.
