Is it still One Direction?

Has anyone else come close to their success yet? Little Mix?

Depends on what you're judging it on. Worldwide sales? General popularity?

If the former, then still One Direction I believe.

Not for singing but Rylan Clark's done alright for himself, especially since he started out as a joke act. He's now a well known presenter and television personality.

One Direction, surely. Breaking the States and world domination is hard to top, and as XF UK loses viewers and relevance, it's unlikely anyone will top their success.

Of course, unless one of the 1D boys goes on to even greater solo success. Potentially also if Little Mix keep a successful career for say, ten years. But the 1D-mania was really a phenomenon, in the US at least.

One Direction, interestingly enough, didn't have *that* much chart success in the UK - they compare pretty unfavourably to e.g. Take That or Westlife.

I second this. His comeback has been remarkable.

I was watching a countdown of the biggest-selling 'X Factor' singles according to the Official Charts Company on the music channel VIVA and should 'SYWLG' surpass the 1 million mark, which is looking likely at this stage, he will be the first act from the show to have two singles sell over a million copies in the UK.

Thats really impressive, although with streaming now adding to sales I'm sure many Acts would have had they had streaming add to sales on release. 1D and Leona certainly would have, especially with Leona's Run and A Moment like this both having over 850,000 sales [Streaming now adds to over 50 percent of the sales, meaning James probably only needed to sell half a million to actually reach 1 million sales]

It is an impressive feature, but million seller singles used to be very rare feature, with usually about 1 song a year reaching this, meaning the song would usually be massive and the biggest song of the year, with the chart as it is today, now 15 songs a year are hitting 1 million with streams, which kinda takes away from the achievement of 1 milllion sales of a single.

Little Mix are at 23M from the last show figure. Still makes them 3rd though.

For money made when you take into account merchandise , toys etc 1D probably blows any other act out of the water for the cash they generated

Little Mix are perhaps the one act who five years into their career are still on the rise. They have more no 1 singles and their albums have sold more on each release. The latest one 'Glory Days' being their first no 1. The last two albums are pop gems and are both in the top 40. Plus their music is something of a contrast with their contemporaries.

There's a pretty clear top 5.

One Direction is tops on most categories. Hard to argue with multiple NA stadium tours.

Leona had the biggest single and album, but not so much after that.

Olly and Little Mix are all-rounders (singles, albums, tours) with the best longevity. LM is the only XF act to still be getting bigger in their 6th year and has more of an international profile, while Olly had more success faster and has lasted longer.

JLS has slipped behind on aggregate now, but their first era was bigger than any Olly or LM have had.

There's a big gap between those 5 and anyone else on the show, though James Arthur does have potential.

Honorary mention to Ruth Lorenzo who got her first number 1 single in Spain back in October- 8 years after appearing on X Factor UK.

Yeah I follow charts and sales, they are nowhere close to that figure.
