Sometimes I feel for the family who suddenly have their own private grief thrown into the open.
Interesting, (and kudos to them) that the family of Andrew Sachs kept news of his passing out of the public domain, until after his funeral.

It really isn't a major deal. It's a quiet period for news and if filling a bulletin with George Michael's unexpected death is what viewers want to see, then so be it.

Other news providers are available.
Unexpected? Someone who seems to have been a promiscuous homosexual and heavy user of drugs and alcohol? Amazing he lasted so long.

And non users of drugs and alcohol can unfortunately die young as well. People who over eat, may die young, people who decide to enjoy extreme sports or even regular sports can die.

Homosexuality isn't really relevant in anyway whatsoever.

If anything, Keith Richards' excesses appear to be pickling him!

Your obvious and continued defence of the BBC in every little aspect is leading to rudeness to other users, who have done nothing wrong.
Some people's continued condemnation of the BBC in every little aspect is just as annoying.

Oh dear

Did he die of AIDS ? Alcohol abuse ? Drug overdose ? No. So even by your comments it was unexpected.

Will you say that when the Queen dies?
I don't mind the Queen at all but I dread to think how the BBC will handle it. They are sycophantic beyond description at the very best of times.

Same could be said for your constant anti-BBC moaning on DS!
Agenda much!!!

At least with her, Liz Smith and Richard Adams, it should draw some of the attention away from him. Must be like a dream for some news people, three famous people and a pop singer all dying within a couple of days.
4 Rick Parfitt from Status Quo died before all of them on Christmas Eve. He got very little coverage. He was as well loved as George Michael, the Quo Army are devestated at his death.

Yeah but there was still actual news on Xmas eve...
The amount of coverage a story such as this gets depends more on what else is available to fill the bulletin than anything else.

We don't know yet but he hardly looked healthy in the most recent picture.

1) It's Christmas, very little of note generally happens.
Lots of huge and tragic news stories were happening all over the world. Don't be so naive to think the whole world's news stops because its Christmas.

It may seem like that if you watch only the Showbiz celeb obsessed BBC though.

I'm afraid George's story is very similar to Elvis.

I'm surprised no-one has (yet) complained about coverage of Carrie Fisher's death or Richard Adams.

You might find it annoying, but it doesn't descend into rudeness like certain people's defence of the BBC.

It's not even a question of pro/anti BBC (of which I am neither), it's a question of basic respect for other people despite them having different views.

Why bring his sexuality into it ?? Is it still 1983 where you live ?

Just adding a little balance. Will we have a thread regarding SKY News covering the news of Carrie Fisher's death during the time the Japanese Prime Minister was giving a speech at Pearl Harbour which was being shown "live" on the BBC News.

Not defending/supporting either, but isn't it good to have two different channels covering different things? What would be the point in having two channels covering the same speech when there is breaking news?

PMQs are usually covered by three BBC channels all showing the same thing !

And I have posted the obvious reasoning behind each channel's coverage on the many occasions that you have posted this.

Both are 24 hour dedicated news channels and for important events you would expect both to cover them simultaneously. Different news channels would have different contributors and even a different slant. Also viewers have a preference to which news channel they follow and those who follow SKY may have even been unaware that the speech was taking place at that time. The breaking news of Carrie Fisher and the contributions from fans and stars was appropriate coverage but was likely to be extensively covered over the next few days so plenty of time for reaction but after a significant and "live" event such as the Japanese Prime Minister's address at Pearl Harbour especially with the speculation in whether he would make an apology.

The BBC News let itself down when Muhammad Ali died during the summer and both the main bulletins and the rolling service concentrated on nothing but the one story. I know that George Michael's death is untimely and a big story but sometimes 'less is more'.

I found Sky News to be even worse than the BBC coverage of GM's passing.
They were playing some video clips of him performing, fair play.

But then 30 seconds passed, a minute passed, 90 seconds passed and it was still playing. No commentary or insight, just a music video playing out close to entirety.
Honestly couldn't tell if we were watching a news channel or MTV.

This was around 23:30 on xmas day.

Tbf the news was unexpected and it broke late on what is usually one of the slowest news days of the year but rest assured the channels can always turn to Twitter for profound comments at such a time and they all did, ad nauseum.

Enough with the hyperbole for the love of....
Truly pathetic the whining over coverage of a news story as if the news covering what happened is going to end your lives!
Time some people got some bloody perspective!!
