Doubtless along the lines of "As we have previously discussed, under the terms of the contract we only monitor outgoing stereo audio and Dolby soundtracks are not a part of the agreement. If you require Dolby monitoring we can offer this service for £xxx, xxx per channel per annum and I am copying in your account manager for reference if you wish to take this further."

(I'm guessing here.)
It'll probably turn out to be metadata problem, as said in posts above, when it goes wrong, it's spectacular, (or spectacularly silent) ! Only a guess though

Still, it's been almost 9 years since the last 5.1 disaster the Beeb have had

(Well worth a read, in light of last night's problem)

Not on a Sky box - for some bizarre reason the box only records the audio that your box was set to at the time of the recording, so even though it appears to give you the option to turn audio description on and off during playback (like subtitles) it actually doesn't change the replayed audio at all.
Really? So if there's a sight-limited person and people with hearing ability in the same household they would have to record the same programme twice to watch versions suited to them at different times. That is very limited. I know of £50 fta boxes that record both streams.

The linked DS thread about the Eurovision issue is a good read... if only to see how angry people are getting over a fairly insignificant issue (one that could have been "fixed" by switching to BBC1 SD, I gather)

The point is that many people record or chase-play programmes these days and they (we) did not have that option last night if set for BBC1 HD. I used the iPlayer 2 hour rolling broadcast of BBC1 to catch it on my PC but the picture was pretty dire at the time, so I guess quite a few others did the same.
