With the reintroduction of the Barlow's as a driving force of Corrie again, I was wondering about the character Susan Barlow (Ken's daughter/Peter's twin/Adam's mum), did her character have much of an impact on the show? She's never mentioned by any of the family, did Tracy have a sisterly relationship with her like she does with Peter?

I wonder if she would have a place in the show today?

She's dead so probably won't really have a place in the show today.

Tracy was really fond of Susan at one point. She even ran away to Newcastle to be with her, causing Deirdre and Ken a lot of worry.

She was also a bridesmaid when Susan married Mike Baldwin.

I think if the actress playing her had been a lot stronger, she may have survived. Today's Tracy would have eaten her alive.

Killing her off was a waste. They could've really made something of her down the line, as they have with Peter.

Susan was built into a significant character in the mid-80s, which was ironically one of Corrie's weaker periods. Susan's involvement with and eventual marriage to Mike Baldwin was the main focus of her time on the show between 1985 and 1987, however it was always about Ken vs. Mike rather than Susan in her own right. Sadly, this is the way that Susan was always treated right up until her death in 2001.

Killing her off just to bring in Adam was a huge waste and again focused on stirring up the Ken and Mike feud, not on Susan. She was little more than a plot device.

Susan and Peter, the Barlow twins, could've offered so much to the show but the chance was squandered.

I don't think it helped that the last two Susans were played by two of the weakest actresses ever to appear on the show!! The mid 80s version that married Mike was absolutely appalling as I recall & the completely altered version who apoeared with Adam years later was almost as bad!!
