Us Bennite types rationalised that the
only way we would get out of the EU was via poisonous Tory infighting and UKIP agitating. And it was about democracy, not a particular left wing viewpoint.
Pure ideology only goes so far and then you have to be pragmatic to achieve ultimate aims. Labour were never going to give us a referendum and the Greens would never gain power, at least in most of our lifetimes.
Once we are out there will be opportunities to elect British governments with better social policies for a long term future.
