How is it rubbish? Money to pay for government stuff comes, directly or indirectly, from the general public, taxpayer, voter, whatever collective term of convenience is least offensive to the unnecessarily pedantic and/or argumentative types. Even the new virtual money created by the BoE will end up with us footing an additional bill of some kind when the consequences of that action take shape.
Instead you tried to make some "clever" comment about all money being our money, but you totally missed the point being made (and are still missing it). |

It's always what happens with all the corrupt behaviour of the elite:
Laws are introduced that only ever make things difficult for the honest majority while doing zero to deal with the shenanigans of the elite. ------------------------------- Look at tax evasion. How about laws that severely punish such behaviour? Make those people think twice won't it? What do we actually get?, Laws that treat the majority as if they are guilty of something. But nothing that the tax cheat need worry about. It's the same with electoral fraud. How about severe punishments for those found guilty of it? 5 years in prison, 10 years in prison. That sort of thing. Instead we get laws that will treat the majority as if they are guilty of something.... |

And this goes beyond merely looking like they are doing something about "a problem"
In the guise of dealing with electoral shenanigans the Conservatives are committing electoral shenanigans.. |

It is rubbish because it ignores the point being made that a fee for an ID card could discourage the poorer sections of our community from voting.
Unless the argument is that everything which has a visible fee automatically instigates a rich-vs-poor debate without needing any particular reason? |

Which is entirely irrelevant to what I said, as I made no comment on that, being a point that you wedged in afterwards.

Not everything, but if you don't see that imposing a charge to vote is deeply damaging to a democracy you are beyond hope.
I think we are arguing different points and there's not much to be gained from continuing this one so in the interest of what little sanity we have left, I'll exit here
