Is there a list somewhere of post offices open today (27/12)? Google is coming up with nothing, and the Post Office website is its usual useless self (pretty much says they may be, go and rattle the door). I know my local one isn't but I'm prepared to drive 10-15 minutes to find one (Ringwood, Hampshire area)- need to post a letter to France.

TIA

27 December - Tuesday Bank Holiday - in lieu of Christmas Day No collections or deliveries. (In England)

Same applies in Scotland.

Same applies, it's a Bank Holiday so they won't be open.

Is it just a standard letter that you want to send by normal post and you don't need it sent recorded or anything? If so, it's 90p for up to 20g. Just put two second class stamps on it and you are covered. More likely to be somewhere open today that sells them than a post office.

However there are no collections today as said so even if you did find a post office open it won't go until tomorrow so you could just wait till tomorrow to go to one and it won't delay it getting there.

For Europe, including France, it is £1.05 for up to 20g and £1.52 up to 100g. If it is Large Letter size then it is £2.45 for up to 100g.

It may be that one of the corner shops which double as post offices would be open today but, as you say, nothing would be picked from there before tomorrow.

They'll have the same bank holiday as the other staff.

I went off this page that says 90p for international economy. There will of course be more expensive, faster services.

Yes, but only with a delivery of 2 weeks guaranteed. Sounds as if the OP is in a hurry.

The £1.05 rate usually gives a delivery within about 3 days I have found. I post something to a remote part of France every Tuesday and it often arrives Thursday.

Aye. 2 second class stamps would cover £1.05 too

True, but it doesn''t take much to go over 20g. 3 A4 sheets is about the limit.

Thanks for the replies. The letter needs to get out ASAP- I'm aware that it wouldn't move from the Post Office until tomorrow, but I'm working all day tomorrow, so can't get to post it after today. I've tried the two second class stamps thing before, and it's been random whether the letters have arrived or not.

A bit of background to this- it's to pay a bill in France (AXA insurance)- it's a direct debit, but for some random reason, AXA also want you to tick a box on a form, and send it back to them in order for them to debit your account. Isn't the whole point of DD not having to do this The letter from them arrived xmas eve post, they need it back by 2nd Jan.

Typical French bureaucracy. I know someone who gets a regular payment from a French organisation and every year she has to prove she is still alive. That involves a doctor's certificate which then goes to the French Consulate in London for verification and only then can she return the form to the originators.

Going on an earlier post, then there is this page
http://www.royalmail.com/personal/sending-mail
Says for £6 you can do it online
Never done it online, but instructions here
https://www.royalmail.com/discounts-...postage/create

I would pay the £6.

Don't believe all the lies about Post Offices not being open on Bank Holidays. The same people would probably tell you Post Office branches don't open on Sundays!

Crown Post Offices tend to work to union-controlled legacy working hours, but the majority of Post Offices are in branches of McColls, WH Smith and Co-op so work to the same opening hours as the shop.

The nearest Post-Office to me was open as usual on Christmas Day and is open from 06:00 to 18:00 today.

You might have been able to post a letter at shop were that was open on xmas day, but it will not be collected from there till the 28th as the royal mail does not start collecting and delieveries till the 28th, and i dare say the shop was a corner shop of some sort

Just come back from my local shopping centre, the Asda post office counter was open. I don't know if this will apply down south (if that's where you are). If you have an Asda with a post office attached, phone the shop & see if the post office is open today.

Yes, my local post office is now in WH Smiths, when I was posting cards before Christmas the woman at the next counter was asking the cashier when were they open, and she said they'd be open the same hours as WHS, but that nothing would be collected on 25th, 26th or 27th. Post a letter today and it won't be collected and start its journey until tomorrow.

It's hardly lies, FGS! I'm quite sure people weren't deliberately giving the OP misinformation!

Collections aren't always the point. It's starting and paying for the process at a time and place convenient to the OP. For basic postal services, it doesn't matter if the POS is at a prestigious 18th century sandstone building in a city centre that only opens unionised hours or the same tillpoint that sells me a pint of milk at 6am on the way to work.

They certainly weren't telling the truth!
