Television competitions

Have you ever won a competition on a TV show like This Morning, Good Morning Britain or Loose Women ?
What would happen if you won and you were out (and you don't have a mobile phone, which I do not !)
Would they keep ringing you until you answer or would they just pick someone else ?

I won a signed Arsenal shirt on Football Focus in 2002.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to tell the winners to make sure that they're in when they're called?

Obviously a consolation prize!

So all the people who have entered the competition have to stay in all day JUST IN CASE they get picked ?
So to repeat : Would they keep calling you or pick someone else ?

No, only the ones who're going to win.

A crayon dinosaur I drew at around three was displayed on the Playschool art board once.

Not sure if that counts.

My husband won three grand in the Dickinson's Real Deal Competition once. He did the online entry rather than the phone-in though - as far as I know, they only do the phone-in now.

As to whether they'd keep calling if you were out, I'm not sure how you'd know unless you were the person who did the calling, rather than a winner. I do know that when Real Deal rang, they told my husband that his name would be up on the program's website in a couple of hours (and it was), so I suppose not having put it up already gives them room to contact someone else if you don't respond. I'd like to think that they try more than once before moving on, though.

I did once win a pair of tickets to watch England play at Wembley. It wasn't a TV competition, it was a football website comp, and when they rang to tell me they said that they'd draw another winner if I couldn't use the tickets. I really wanted to go, but had no transport and didn't want to see the tickets go to waste so I asked them to ring me back in half an hour while I tried to sort something out. I never really expected them to, but they did, by which time I'd arranged with my son to take us up and we got to watch the game together.

If you dont have a mobile and only a land line after a few rings it goes to voice mail so Im sure they would leave a message saying who they are from and could you ring them back.

The Late Late Show in Ireland always say that the winner must be available to take the call so in that case they'd just try someone else. Although anyone watching the Late Late isn't that likely to be out unless they're only watching while getting ready to head out.

I enter a lot of competitions and win a few. I've never won a TV competition, but I have won a radio one. Their policy was that the phone call had to be answered within about six rings. Luckily I got to it in time, as it was for £1,000.

The T&Cs vary for every competition. Some contact you by email, others by phone, sometimes prizes arrive unexpectedly in the post. Different companies have different policies on how many attempts they will make to contact a winner, before offering the prize to someone else. I won one recently and wasn't contacted at all - I just happened to notice my name on their website and I was expected to contact them.

It's a great hobby, but it's massively time-consuming and it's never going to pay the bills, unless you get really lucky.

It'd be an idea to read the Terms & Conditions of the competition you are entering if you want to know such things.

Did you ever enter You Say We Pay on Richard and Judy? I would love to try and describe a salamander to Richard Madeley.
