Erm....yes? Otherwise that would be discrimination. Honestly in this PC, 'enlightened' age I'm amazed that anyone would even ask such a question! From a practical perspective I struggle to see why height would be relevant to being a vicar anyway.

An extra step just in front of the altar would suffice I would think.

I'm mildly surprised at how popular that character was. For me he was too corny, especially at the start. His incompetence with the knife killer was boring, and his attempt to do his own magic tricks became puerile. Swallowing the buttons and then giving them back after washing the poo off - that's the level of comedy you guys want? He did get better towards the end when he became a bit more serious and competent.
Oh, and the vicar said he took a powerful emetic to get the buttons back. So probably no poo was involved in the show (insert hilarious riposte of your choice). |

They would indeed (by law) so I guess it IS relevant. I probably should have said I don't see why height should discount someone from being a vicar.
But you are right, height wouldn't be a reason to disbar anyone from ordination. (In the CoE, anyway; I don't know what the RC's policy is). Edit; Or, as others have said, they could use a stool - I never thought of that.

Actually I was being funny - they wouldn't have to adapt the Altar, they could use a low table for Communion.

Although I liked the vicar, I would not like him as a side kick.
If he is so socially inept that to not understand the revolting buttons thing, then he would not be able to interact normally with people. As a plot device, it was funny, though. So, how he can be a vicar, dealing with grief and joy, I dont understand. |

I would have thought that someone socially inept would actually have a considerable empathetic advantage in dealing with the vicissitudes of life! Supermen rarely have the understanding of failure required.
But if they fail to see that the whole swallowing buttons, then the dishwasher (yuck), then offering them up to someone, isn't disgusting, then they may be failing at other (hygienic) aspects in life too. |

Good to see an episode on Alibi today which I hadn't seen before, the Christmas edition from 1998 "Black Canary" with Rik Mayall and Caroline Quentin.

If people concentrated, instead of (presumably) busily scribbling lists of what they hate, they would have heard that he" took a fast acting emetic" to get the buttons back. Still not classic comedy, admittedly. |

I was hoping to find a Jonathan Creek thread somewhere on here, but this one's already quite long. However, rather than start another one (never a popular move with DS poster police) I thought I'd ask a couple of questions about this one-off special.
Just exactly who was the black guy that came gunning for everyone? Was he the same chap that was fitting the security cameras? What was his beef with the family? The girl had obviously married a wrong'un, but the method of killing of his first wife, although clever, was just so ridiculous it beggared belief! Although we watched it properly all the way through, things weren't very clear by the end! Do we assume that Jonathan's older brother died at some point? I wasn't sure what all those little notes that were revealed in the globe at the end were all about. Sometimes you watch something and everything's' crystal clear from the start. Then other times the whole thing's so muddled it makes no sense! Probably my post Christmas brain addlement! |

Yeah, and also some people were determined to hate it before it had aired.

I don't think they have ever mentioned Jonathan's brother before but maybe they are setting up a plotline for a future episode? The notes in the globe were notes that he had written to Jonathan pretending they were from the fairies (or was it pixies? I forget now.)

Yes, he was the guy who was fitting the security cameras, which the stepfather hadn't actually ordered at all; he just came along and said that he had to get access to the house. The first wife, who had been killed by the husband, was the security camera guy's sister and he wanted revenge for her death (although we have to assume that the brothers-in-law had never met each other for this to make sense.) The method of killing her had been set up so that Jonathan Creek would figure it out and use it to "prove" the husband's innocence, though I would have thought he would still be prime suspect whatever method was used.

Been watching a few of the classic episodes on Netflix to remind myself how good it was. I've got them all on DVD, however Netflix is easier, at least it was until I soon noticed some absolutely savage editing going on, there's entire scenes cut out of every episode.
Is this because Netflix are buying episodes from the sorts of channels who hack BBC hour-long episodes to bits to fit adverts in? |
