I enjoyed it, although not really one of the best JC stories.

The fact that he didn't suspect the husband in the earlier poisoning case seems like a fairly whopping plot hole to me.

Surprised to see nothing but complaints so far.

it was miles better than the mini series a few years ago, and I enjoyed it from start to finish.
I was starting to think I was the only one.

I thought it was very entertaining. But I still don't like his wife.

How did he kill his wife?

Something about a small ball of Antimony set to roll into her glass of water?

Though I don't get who JC thought did it if he originally didn't think it was the husband?

Not sure I got the plot or was there a big plot hole?

SPOILER ALERT

Was the woman's husband the same guy that poisoned his wife six years earlier? I assume it was because that's why the brother of the woman wanted to get his revenge?

If the man was the same as the man six years ago why didn't Jonathan Creek recognize the man as soon as he met him in the stately home? Or am I wrong and they were two different men?

????

Better than the last 3 episodes, but that's not saying much.

My problem with this newer version of the show is that it's all too whimsical and relies too much on the fantasy stuff 'hobgoblins' and 'ghosts' whereas in the older episodes, these minor points would be explained within seconds by Jonathan, rather than them being focal points in the plot. Even the flashbacks to a young Jonathan jar with the earlier version of the show.

'Phone-y' is fresh out of a Jonathan Creek spoof. It's the kind of thing that Alistair McGowan used to do a few years back.

Warwick Davis was a welcome addition to the show, and he had good chemistry with the rest of the cast.

I found the reveal of the CCTV man a bit limp because the episode didn't seem to have many characters in the first place. It was always going to be him, or one of the other two characters in the house.

Overall, it's not Jonathan Creek really. The style change and plot development means it's not the show I fell in love with. I'll never not watch an episode out of loyalty/ stupidity, but for me it wasn't the worst Creek I've ever watched.

Can anyone clarify that the man that murdered his wife six years ago - anti-money - was the same guy that the black guy murdered in the pit of fire?

I assume it was the same guy! I don't get the plot. Sorry. Something doesn't make sense or I'm Mr Thickie.

This episode was my favourite of the recent JC episodes - I found it very entertaining and thought the mysteries were very satisfying.

In particular, I really liked the poisoning mystery and the 'anti money' resolution to it. I think this could have worked as the main mystery, as it had more mileage than the mystery death of the mother and sisters which I had guessed quite early on.

Maddy will always be my favourite sidekick and I do miss the windmill, but I do like Polly and think she's a good sidekick. I prefer her to Sheridan and Julia Sawalha's characters.

It was the same man, and JC did recognise him. In fact he was the one who put his new wife in contact with JC. Still struggling to believe he wasn't prime suspect in the original poisoning though.

He did recognise him - he asked how he had been??????? Everyone knew it was the same man - Jonathan had got him off the charge of poisoning.

Umm, he knew it was him from the start. That's why he was there because the woman knew Jphnathan had helped him before so she thought he could help her now. The man tried to talk her out of it but she contacted Johnathan herself.

He didn't know he was the murderer though because he had proven the man's innocence before by blaming it on a mysterious "other" who had never been caught. He did enough to prove reasonable doubt.

It's nearly 20 years since the first series. Maybe the producers have felt the need to dumb it down for the new generation and different ways that people watch TV and expect things to happen, now?

They both seemed very blasé about effectively burning someone alive...

The murdered woman had a sister, that sister had married the black man and lived in Africa. The painting of the zebra was done by the murdered woman's niece, who was the black man's daughter.

So he was never involved in the original murder and Johnathan wouldn't have met him. He didn't murder the woman, the woman's husband did.

The question is why didn't the murderer recognize his brother on law?

He did recognize him? Oh, must have missed that bit. Still not sure the two bits of the plot gel well - the guy killing his wife and getting released and the same guy with the new wife! Obviously it's a story coincidence but I never got the sense the guy knew Creek and Creek never had a brief chat with him about the past.

"Oh fancy meeting you here!"

Yes, thank for getting me off that murder charge!"

And I never knew they were the same guy and surely that was the whole point. Surely the twist was we find out at the end the man was the same man from six years ago - hency why the black guy admits it and gives his reason for killing him (or rather, Creek gives the reason why he killed him).

I think there is a plot hole or major lack of credibility here. I'll need to watch it again to see if it makes total sense!

Indirectly, as she asked him about JC (and if he could help).

Mind you, she got saved by the (other) murderer in the end and not JC.

I can't see why you are confused. Stephen (the bloke who poisoned his first wife) was the same person as Stephen who was married to Alison. It was the same actor. They talked about how Jonathan Creek had helped him get off the charge. JC spoke to him when they met and called him by name (Stephen).

I still struggle to get this. So Jonathan knew it was the man from six years ago but we, the audience, didn't. We can't because it's revealed at the end - hence why the brother of the murdered woman wanted to kill the guy.

We didn't know they were one and the same guy so how could Creek know and inform the audience? We didn't know so therefore Creek couldn't know cos he never revealed it. And how would he know the black guy was the brother? He didn't know that too! LOL

To be fair Stephen didn't have an immediate plan to kill her,. I mean he may have taken action eventualily but for now he seemed content to wait and see if she would die of a genetic disease and save him the trouble.

We did bloody know! Good grief, it was the same bloke!!!!!! The same actor, the same name (Stephen! His initials were a clue in the poisoning mystery). Why didn't you know????

The characters talked about it!! Everyone knew!!!!
