It was Boxing Day, it might come as a surprise to you that in many areas outside of London and other large metropolitan areas there are no bus services on that particular Bank Holiday.
I'm willing to be proved wrong, but I would expect metropolitan areas large enough to have 24/7 bus lanes also to have some sort of bus service on Boxing Day.

Anyway, you can't really make a plea in mitigation when it's a fixed penalty ticket - either it's valid or not.

...where the buses were operating a Sunday timetable, so no more moral argument for an "amnesty" than on a normal weekend.

They are only a money spinner if people don't check the signs and road colouring.
I think the money has to be reinvested in road schemes and safety anyhow.
Safety camera fines all go back to the Treasury these days (until a couple of years ago, the local authority collected them via camera partnerships). So, no ring-fencing. (TfL might be a special case, I don't know).
Anyway, if it was on boxing day, it may be considered Sunday hours, so not applicable.

Still, it will only be £30 if you get a ticket and the drive up the A74 has to be one of the nicest scenic intercity trips in the UK.

Driving in unfamiliar city centre yesterday, satnav told me to bear left and I drove into a camera monitored bus lane by mistake and realised too late and had no option but to carry on. There were no buses or any other traffic around at the time. Will I definitely get a penalty fine in the post, or is there an amnesty on Christmas/Boxing Day? Also I understand it's not a criminal offence so just a fine not penalty points?

It's been years since I lived in Glasgow In fact it's more confusing as the street layout has changed quite a lot from when I knew it in the '80s & '90s. It used to be really nice to navigate as it's mostly grid plan in the centre, but they've messed it up with one-way systems and bus lanes

I had a look today and there is a ?automated camera (the ones with multiple round holes) monitoring the bus lane. There is signage but in mitigation the weather was awful yesterday and i wasn't paying enough attention. There was a BMW behind me in the bus lane, I think he must have been unfamiliar and following me & I led him astray too!
Not paying enough attention isn't a mitigating factor...

If you can't read a small thread correctly, you're probably not safe on the roads either

The mitigation was that the weather was awful on Monday. Yes I know it's not an excuse, just that the conditions weren't ideal especially when not familiar with the lie of the land.

I received one a few months back while driving along John Dobson Street in Newcastle City Centre, Heading for The Uni, missed my turn off so had to go through the Centre, Crazy Mad place to drive through for an out of towner. The charge was for 60 paid 30 within 14 days so, lesson learned.

Borders and Highlands are the nicest scenic roads of Scotland and they are usually quiet off the beaten track.

I hate city centres... Too many lanes and if your not familiar end up in the wrong lane and committed to going in the wrong direction until you can turn off at next junction

I've also noticed Great Western Road is not as nice as it was 20 years ago.

That's the trouble - make one navigational error and it forces you into another

I was taking your thread as a whole not bits and stand alone posts.

I was thinking not once had to said you were going to appeal due to mitigating circumstances. But you know DS they will split a post to make it say what they like, so they can get their little dig in. I know you did say that but I also know it was not meant in the way it was taken but there you go.

So many perfect drivers on this forum. Im almost 60 been driving a very long time never had a accident but have made a few mistakes like yours. Its not easy trying to drive and find a place in a busy and confusing place you have not driven before. Fine driving through somewhere but when you are also having to look for something avoid hazards with bad weather to boot we are all lucky to be alive

When I am in Glasgow ( about once every two years) I keep or kept getting stuck in right turn only lanes.. I could not understand how that was happening.. Its that where I am we don't have those types of lanes any more the road gets wider and the lanes separate leaving the lane I am in to go ahead and the new lane to do the right turn. It really bugged me but when I realised what was wrong I was OK.. .. Road markings in Glasgow were awful and was not helping

While I sympathise with your misfortune, it would appear that you took the sat-nav as gospel and just followed its instructions.
I'm sure that some drivers would comply if the disembodied voice of the sat-nav said, "Pull over to the left, get out of the car and do a hand stand."
Personally I don't have a sat-nav, although I'm sure that they must help a lot of people, maybe could even help me, as although I know London like the back of my hand, once I get south of Norbury, or north of Finchley, I may as well be in Mexico City.
I'm more than sure though, that if I had one, and it advised me to take the next left, if there was a no entry sign on the corner of the next left, I would keep going.

South of Norbury and North of Sudbury would have scanned better

I used to know London and Manchester like the back of my hand. All the back routes etc.

But like a poster on another thread said about Glasgow, times change.

I'd be lost these days unless I stuck to Main Roads and used a Sat-Nav.

You can't even pull over to consult an A-Z without getting an ANPR ticket.

Assuming there are any spots to pullover.

Friend of mine once drove the whole way through Dublin in bus lanes because he was late for a concert at The Point. He made it, too!
I got caught twice in the same week in the same bus lane. It was the week they came into operation in Glasgow.
