Is this some kind of advertising campaign?

I would not tell my kid off if I had one if they said thats so gay.But if they said they HATE gays I would as its a big different.

It was more A Talk. Not a major telling off...although I was surprised as I thought he knew better than that. Mind you, I think he prefers a telling off to our Talks.

I'm not massively PC and I get your point but I'd rather he not blindly use what some see as casual homophobia because his friends do. It's unnecessary. I've taught him many bad words to describe something lame. He can use one of them instead.

Well that's GT they love a bit of controversy

Next episode Hammond will be splashing about in a giant champagne glass filled with ice cream

Of course. 'I must download it to see him really give it to that PC brigade' is the idea

People are aware that he was apparently mocking a Finnish Ice Cream Advert?

That's the second time I've seen this posted but not seen evidence that that was what he was doing. In any case, I still don't get the link. This advert looks to me like a parody of the Milk Tray Man,

Most people on the thread aren't actually 'outraged' about it - they either don't get the supposed humour or just think it was rather crass. The 'outrage' (what a gloriously hyperbolic word) seems to be more from people thinking that others are outraged

They need to grow up and realise being gay isn't taboo or weird in our society any more. It is fair game for jokes as much as anything.”

Fair game?

Hmmmm. Funny that. Especially when millions of young adults and kids STILL use the word 'gay' as derogatory. "Oh that's so gay", "You're so gay", "I'm not doing that it's gay".

If you flip that to black or Asian in a derogatory manner, nobody could try and justify it at all.

I'm starting to get sick of people defending casual homophobia.

I think it's best to chalk it down to a childish attempt at humor that failed.

I really do despair at some people on twitter though. It's like their life Misson to be offended/outraged at anything.

Last week it was the Guy thrown off the plane for speaking Arabic (which turned out to be fake). This week it is this.

There should be a 30 second delay before posting on twitter to give people's brains time to engage.

Words change their meaning over time. "Gay" didn't always mean homosexual.

Do you know who said this? What's it got do with what he said?

I think the real joke was meant to be his dumbness, but he dumbly chose the wrong subject.

Because the advert caused a fair amount of controversy in Finland. TGT was in Finland. Hammond was referencing it. It was the reason why Clarkson started talking about ice cream to set this piece up.

Of course, ignore it and continue with your indignation.

I know they were in Finland and I've seen the ad. Why did it cause controversy?
I'm not indignant, I'd just like to know what his "joke" had to do with the ad.

Like I said yesterday, an obvious PR stunt and 'look what we can say now we are not on the BBC!'. What baffles me is why what's obvious to you and me doesn't seem to be obvious to everyone. Any criticism - which people are fully entitled to air - should be directed at Amazon and its production team though for me, it's a huge fuss about nothing.

Whichever way you look at it, ice cream is not a manly food.

I'm gay and am not offended, and don't think Hammond is homophobic. This joke isn't funny though, and Hammond has made himself look stupid.

For goodness sake, why didn't he chin him back. What are you man or mouse? I would have hung my head in shame had that been me crying to my employer.

I see many of the kids growing up now are all what they call gamers and if you took them to a rough area they would run away, because they haven`t seen the real life.
Same goes for when these type of kids need to start working, they have never seen any real life situations so they are like a fish out of the sea.

So, yes being kind to others etc is good and needed but more importantly people having a back bone and not getting offended by everything is more important.

I mean seriously it`s a joke. funny or not, just get on with it. It just reminds me of kids going crying to their mothers or teachers when something happens. Just grow up and man up.”

I don't think you are really qualified to post a thoughtful view on this topic, considering in another thread you said you don't like gay people.

You're making a pretty big leap in assuming these people actually have a brain.

I would have suffered a dodgy neck from the blow and taken Clarkson to the small claims, I would have settled out of court for about twenty grand
