The worst thing about it is that we're losing comedy people of obsessive political correctness and the fear of snowflake offense.”

I don't think we're losing that much, just that we see more people moaning, because of the Internet. Most people, even those who post online, don't actually care in real life. There's still comedy out there of all types and genres. Watch what you enjoy and let others do the same IMO.

It's got great publicity for the Grand Tour.

I want to hear people's honest opinions even if I disagree with them, but in this case it sounds like it was meant as a joke.

I absolutely hate this political correctness that people seem to strive for these days when people can't say anything without some special snowflake taking offense.”

Absolutely.

I'm just glad he doesn't work for the BBC any more. Can you imagine how much taxpayers money would be wasted by the serially offended? There'd be two inquiries, 27 meetings and at least four probes and a half dozen investigations.

I couldn't understand what the humour was supposed to be either.
Maybe it is some petrol head thing.

The target audience were probably amused by this joke but most other people were disgusted.

Richard Hammond has been the #1 trend on Twitter for the last 12 hours. This is really riling people.

Hammond should apologise for these remarks.”

Low IQ? Care to furnish us with what you watch? It wasnt overly funny, but it certainly was not homophobic. It was just a crap joke. And it's fair to say 'most people' are not offended at all.

For the last 12 hours? Wow! The episode was broadcast last week....

So basically, someone got offended, picked this up and a few other folk have got offended as well.

It's hardly worth bothering about surely? It was simply a joke. People need to stop being so offended all the time. The human race is turning into a bunch of bloody wooses.

"Snowflake" or "special snowflake" has been around since the early days of the internet. It's not new.

You may be overreacting, as I doubt it's quite as bad as that. Anyway, there's no particular merit in being deliberately offensive.

That is how a lot of these things work, hardly anyone says anything about it until a Twit storm goes around and now they all suddenly join in, for 12-24 hours until the next thing when it is all forgotten and they're on to the next thing.

I'm not offended, in fact I am glad he said it. I now know the half-pint prick is a dick head and a moron and I can ignore anything he may have to say in future.

I've never heard it until recently, and I've been around since the early days of the internet!. It's only in the last few months that it seems to have caught on in general use.

People get offended by to much nowadays, just grow a pair and say something back if you don`t like it, no need to act all insulted every time.

kids used to grow up falling of bikes, fighting with each other etc but now when that happens everyone gets all protective and moan at the parents for letting it happen. They are kids they are suppose to fight or fall over as they grow up.

This subject is just the same. years ago nobody would even mention it, it was a joke someone would have a come back joke and that`s it. nobody would even remember it 5 minutes later.

But in today`s world people get offended of everything so i guess the reactions to this are what we expected.”

Kids were also being sexually and physically abused by people in positions of power; girls who got pregnant were sent away and shunned; gay people were beaten up routinely for being gay. Yep. The 'good old days'. The problem with the 'good old days' is that those jokes made discrimination and hate acceptable. It made crimes against people based on ethnicity or sexual orientation more acceptable. That atmosphere was toxic.

To qualify as a joke, it has to have some kind of pun or punchline. What's funny about saying that eating ice-cream looks gay?

And mine. Calling someone a snowflake is just so bloody lazy. No attempt at a counter argument, discussion or debate. Just shut it down with 'snowflake'. Lazy. Lazy. Lazy.

I hope so, although the 5 people in this thread demonstrate that there are people like that, maybe the new forum could have a ❅ symbol next to their name so we know and can be careful around them.

The new software could automatically replace some grown up topics with cat pictures if you select that view.

Not really. He has just shown himself to be a man of little intellect and therefore not worthy of my time.

Because of a joke you didnt like?

Ah well, that means 99% of comedians then, or in fact anyone, must be a person of little intellect and not worthy of my time if they say something i don't find funny.

I think it does if you've taken to the Twitter storm over something so minor.

No, bur there's a difference between making an edgy joke that is funny, and being a moron. Hammond is a moron.

Can you explain how that joke wasn't homophobic/offensive to gay people?

The whole point of Amazon Prime is that people can stream episodes of The Grand Tour whenever they like. Therefore, not everybody watches the episode at the same time, and so any offensive caused by stupid comments on the show will take time to trickle through. Doesn't make Hammond any less of a dick.

Just because offensive comments are branded "a joke" doesn't mean they aren't offensive. Whether humour was intended or not doesn't mean that what was said is any less offensive or wrong.
