The original BBC1 schedule from 10pm tonight stays the same except it's all delayed by an hour.

Depends on the content of the show (i.e. strong language), but could this had not been on earlier?

Not very easy as would need to be post watershed at 9pm and they need the 9-10pm slot for Witness for the Prosecution as part 1 was on at that time yesterday. Of course they could have put on BBC2 or 4 but would then get a much smaller audience.

Had it been on earlier I bet it would have led to complaints that xxx programme peak-time has been delayed by an hour etc

Let's face it whatever time or channel they put this programme on there will be complaints from some people. I think they have taken the right action in this case so as long as they adjust the EPGs accordingly for those who have programmes scheduled to record.

Should have put it on BBC3.
They must think production cost against anticipated ratings makes it worthwhile.
It's not something I'd watch, though I'm sure many will.
As these sort of tributes are made from time to time, there's a pop few people I wish for enduring good health, Cliff Richard for one.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll unplug the TV from the mains, shut down the Sky + box, (in case it accidentally records it), and stay in the pub until at least midnight.

For anyone who needs to change recording times (in case you set Walliams & Friend to record before the schedule change):

10:00 George Michael concert
11:00 BBC News
11:20 Walliams & friend
12:00 Mrs Brown's Boys (2013 Xmas special)
12:35 Outnumbered
1:15 Fleabag - double bill
2:10 Weather
2:15 BBC News

Interesting that this has shunted the new Walliams show back - presumably the Beeb are happy to give George the better slot given W&F hasn't been well-received (it's been pretty universally slated on DS at very least); presumably if W&F had been doing well they'd have stuck George in after the news! Of course, in the last 24 hours we've had a couple of other tribute broadcasts become needed - I'm not necessarily expecting The Queen of Sheba again as it was only on a few days ago, but people will be expecting something - it's always difficult for the broadcasters when several things break over Christmas/New Year!

They could have found a better live footage tribute than this.

Not really enjoying this performance feels very pretentious and self obsessed, lacking any real emotion or joy, not a good tribute for such a fine artist.

Yes, I'm thinking at this very moment while watching this he is lying on a mortuary slab.

Incredibly sad.

Not a good choice as a tribute, a normal concert instead of this mish mash of song snippets amongst all the chat would have been much better. So much brilliant footage over 30 years instead of this.

I agree with all of this.

They could have chosen a better concert to air as a tribute.

His voice is sublime but most of the songs are boring.

I assume BBC had the rights to this but I agree I would have done a chronology of music videos interspersed with interviews at the time.

Not a fan of the music but there is something about the way George Michael speaks and explains things that's so absorbing. Well done, BBC. Excellent move.

Sorry.

I don't usually have such morbid thoughts, it was just for a split second while I was watching him that the reality hit of where the poor guy is tonight.

I know, so horrible, so young and so scary, 3 of my fave singers growing up Bowie, Prince and George, such a slap in the face when your idols start going.

I was lucky enough to meet George, he was so nice.

It depends upon what is available (and authorised) for public broadcast of course. And whether the BBC has the rights to it.

I thought the same.the covers were 'nice' but I wanted more original George material.highlight for me was 'A different Corner' as someone said maybe it was what was available to the beeb at short motice.still lovely man, lovely voice.
