George Michael - Disrespect
I haven't seen the Daily Mail for days but it is disgraceful.
Going on about drugs and booze, showing pictures of him looking terrible, of his partner in socks and sandals, all to just basically take the mick. |

If you insist on buying or clicking on that scandal mongering rag, you encourage them to concoct more scandal. If you dislike what they write give them a wide berth. If everyone did that they would soon change their ways.

This could have gone in the big George Michael thread but nevermind, he did abuse drugs and alcohol while he had serious health problems. It's not a surprise he died too young. What do you expect the newspapers to do, lie?
As one comment on the DM says "I knew it wouldn't be long before the DM would bring up dirt on George, they do it to every singer/celebrity that dies." It's what they do, sadly. The stupid thing is that we all already know about his past, it was there in the media for all to see when it was happening. It's not news - it's regurgitation of old articles, they have printed all of this stuff about him before. Very lazy 'journalism' (if you could call it that!). |

Their latest bit of clickbait is that his £100 million fortune will go to his godchildren and not his family.

The article I think the OP refers to, is here
I know the Mail are no saints, but that article is only reflecting facts. ...and yes, he did look unrecognisable with all that weight. |

It's the same with Rick Parfitt. He was no saint but the papers have gone on about his drug taking, 3 wife's and womanising. He and George have given pleasure to millions of people. You can't take that away from them, no matter what muck raking the papers do. The same happened with Freddie Mercury when he died.

Sorry I don't get what you're babbling about. If it's a statement of hard fact, what's the issue? |

Best to keep my trap shut, my eyes averted, and seek something more wholesome, like yak racing.

Tabloids have no class, this should not be surprising to you. At least the DM isn't being digustingly homophobic like when Stephen Gately died.

It's the Mail, i'm sure every story will have the strong whiff of homophobia.

I think that expecting 'respect' from a newspaper, any newspaper, is really not the best use of anybody's time as it's not something you will ever see. It's not their job to be respectful. When journalists uncover or investigate crimes, dodgy politicians, tax evaders, etc. we are glad of their lack of 'respect', unfortunately they are also going to be what you consider disrespectful at other times too, in this case when somebody famous dies.

Those who loved him and his contributions to the music industry will continue to love him no matter what the rags print. It's the sanctimonious lot who revel in reading sordid details and doing their best tsk tsk at his lifestyle. Those are who the stories are written for. As someone said, his behaviour was well publicised when it happened back in the day, so it's not as if they're doing a groundbreaking story.

If you don't want to read this stuff don't click their website or buy the paper.
Because if the public didn't want this and there was no market for it they wouldn't produce it I expect half the traffic on the Mail website is Guardian readers clicking stories in the expectation of being outraged. |

Meh, he did drugs and booze and often looked terrible, so the same tabloids that these celebs court when they want to flog something are now getting their own pound of flesh by posting the salacious stuff to flog copies / get hits. That's how it works.

It's been happening since media and celebrity began - long-range photos of Cary Grant swimming with a male film star, suggestions of his homosexuality, etc. It's nothing new. |

It would appear we all love a bit of salacious gossip except about our personal heros when many become all discomfited and outraged .
George had a very colourful life where he lived on the edge , diced with danger and in equal measure was apparently a very philanthropic caring person, all of which is widely reported in equal measure in the press. Not sure why some wish the less attractive side of his life to be whitewashed. It is as relevant as all the rest of his personality . |
