I just realised that besides te break we are havig now, Doctors is on more than EE. Why on earth is such a popular show on less than Doctors. I mean I like Doctors, but it is hardly as big as EE! (Even if I hate the new SOC EE)

And since BBC does not have adverts, it is on more than Corrie and Hollyoaks.

What makes EastEnders more important than Doctors?

It's just that EE is so popular and Doctors is a much smaller and lesser known show. It just surprised me.

My thoughts exactly, it's on everyday normally just like Home and Away, Neighbours and Emmerdale. It's got a completely different audience to EastEnders. In fact I think it's underrated

I usually watch it so I dont hate it but it doesn't really have exciting stunts and murders and doesn't even seem like a normal soap.

But 'normal soaps' aren't just about exciting stunts and murders. In fact before you were born stunts and murders were rare in soaps and for me soaps were better because of it. Give me decent stories and character development over stunts and murders any day.

That doesn't make EE more important.

To be honest, I dont know if I would watch soaps without stunts and murders. They make the shows exciting to watch. And you dont nessecarily need to have as many deaths as Hollyoaks, but one or two a year makes it entertaining.

Are you sure it's on more? Doesn't it have a massive break for the summer, it did this year when Red Rock took it's place.

Doctors took like a 3 month break during the summer, then another six weeks or something over the Christmas period. Can you imagine the BBC doing that to Eastenders and it not being on for nearly five months of the year?

Yes, I waa going yo say that.

It tends to go off air during the summer holidays due to the sports tournaments and again over Xmas. So although it is 5 days a week, the several weeks its off every year probably mean there are actually less hours produced each year than EE.

It being daytime soap makes a big difference re tone as the target audience is different. For one thing, unless they watch pn catch up, teenagers won't see it as they'll be at School.

All watch all the soaps on their apps (BBC Iplayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5)

Actually you have a point. So they probably produce the same amount as EE.

I imagine the number of teenagers catching up on Doctors is single figures.

If you find death entertaining all power to your elbow. The daughter of one of my friends was was murdered a few years ago so I'm afraid I don't. But we all like different things

Hence me saying, unless they use catch up.

Hiwever, even if many doview in this way, they still aren't the target audience, people that you expect to be home during the day are so the elderly, mothers of pre school age chikdren, the unwell. And generally speaking, they are more likely to enjoy more sedate storylinung.

Hollyoaks storylines are targetted more at a younger demographic who are generally going to more enjoy the sensational stuff so affsirs, stunts, murders etc even though of course older people do watch it as well. Like me.

One showing is but the ither are early evening by which point kids are home from school.

Historically, Neighbours started as only daytime in the UK but was moved to 5.30pm because achool children became interested in it when they saw it during the school holidays and tge Controller of tge BBC at that time, Michael Grade, realised ratings would rocket if moved to a time slot when children and teenagers could watch it live.

Home and Away was bought and scheduled at 6pm as a direct competitor by ITV, again targetting teenagers.
