Not much Christmas stuff on is there?

It seems like every year, eggs placed in one basket and forget the rest. I suggest for 2017 the programmes are spread out and we see an end to all this middle-class drama crap like Bronte sisters and Agatha Cristie - people don't want that crap on over Christmas.

Dramas are great over Christmas.

Hardly been any this year.

Christmas Day on ITV was terrible. Full of soaps.

I must have missed the memo that stated the Brontes and Agatha Christie were just for the middle classes

Couldn't agree more, let's scrap the quality drama and replace it with more soaps and reality tv!

Expecting to get a memo about it is a bit middle class!

All this for just £5.60 across two weeks.

I still have about twenty shows and films recorded on my TiVo to watch.

Good TV is there if someone wants to actually find it.

Yeah I cannot get my head around what is going on in their offices, I've not watched hardly anything, seems to get worse each year.

Seems to be all for those who like
Beating Eggs
Old Fashioned Dancing
Period Dramas
Slow Sunday Viewing Yawnfest Dramas
Mediocre comedies from the 90s
Repeats, Repeats and more repeats
Kids Movies none stop
Films that have been on over 20 times before

Some people do want to watch quality drama over Christmas, and not just the middle classes. There's always crap like The Only Way is Essexmas for the small of brain anyway.

There have been practically no period dramas on, very annoying. I loved Death Comes to Pemberly, Downton CS, Dickensian etc at Christmas.

Really, you speak for yourself, I would suggest many would prefer to watch these on their TV at Christmas rather than some hyped up old film dredged up with some vague connection with Christmas. What programmes do you want to watch on Christmas Day then?

The BBC should have brought "Goodnight Sweetheart" back as a Christmas day comedy. With the loss of the Royle Family there is no real comedy on Xmas day any more on the BBC.

Many people are itching for more Goodnight Sweetheart and the BBC need a popular comedy for Xmas day, perfect fit!

However it really does baffle me what type of people they have running the BBC nowadays, when they let popular recommissions slip through their fingers. Just look at how popular Birds of a Feather is on ITV and Red Dwarf on Dave. Both were offered to the BBC first for recommissioning but were refused.

Christmas TV has got steadily worse as the years go by. The budgets have obviously got smaller as the years go by. I know they can't please all of the people all of the time, but to me, this has been the worst year for xmas tv ever! They always fill as much time as possible with films, and we're supposed to be amazed at the "new" films that they have. I think somebody should tell them that we have seen them at the cinema, on Sky Cinema or own them on DVD/Blueray. They then repeat shows on the following day! (You've been framed on xmas day and boxing day) They fill the rest of the day with old shows and call it a great festive season of TV. Soaps have always been part of xmas day and lots of people love them. I just think that the planners need to get some imagination.

No, you look at how popular it is. Not very, is the answer. Yes the first new episodes got a bit of a buzz but that has long disappeared. Which is one very good reason that nobody has acted upon the availability of Goodnight Sweetheart now the Beeb (quite rightly in my opinion) has turned it away.

Agatha Christie got a very good write up in today's papers but obviously doesn't appeal to you for whatever reason, so what do you think should be on and why?

I know! I loved Dickensian. It's been really poor this year. Just looking forward to The Halcyon in Jan.

The little sods get toys to play with. More TV for adults, I say!

Oh look, another "Christmas TV is crap" thread that I bet the OP has been itching to post all year.

It's the same every year - people convince themselves that Christmas TV will be rubbish, so absolutely nothing will please them.

I've enjoyed a fair bit of what's been offered this year - Christmas Bake Off, Birds of a Feather and Blankety Blank was quite fun. It's a shame BBC One didn't have more new comedy though - The Vicar of Dibley repeat on Christmas Eve was one I enjoyed again
