My ancient dishwasher - an Electrolux ESL4114 - is in need of a new filter cover, and it seems that the parts have been discontinued. I haven't had any luck finding a third-party manufacturer who will supply one either.

Here's a link to the part I'm looking for.

So I suspect that I'm going to have to buy a new dishwasher, which will be a pain in the arse. Before I do that, I thought I'd try a last-ditch cry for help in case there's a channel I haven't considered - does anyone have any suggestions about where I might look, beyond google?

Treat yourself to a 3D printer.

Have you looked on ebay for the whole dishwasher?
You might get lucky with a bid for used/parts. You may not need to limit yourself to the precise machine if the part fits more than one model.

Cannot repair with super glue?

Try cutting one out of a piece of stiff plastic like a plastic plate, it doesn't look like it would need to be very accurate to do the job.

This filter on Electrolux's website looks virtually the same. It could be that it is for a later model, but it is possible it could be adapted quite easily to fit an older model.

Says call them and they can recommend a suitable alternative. I have always used them and not had any problems.

I'd just buy a new dish-washer if I'm honest. Chances are over the next few years you'll spend more replacing parts on it than you would on a whole new one. I recommend the Hotpoint ones. We have Hotpoint for all our appliances (other than the fridge) and they're excellent in terms of quality and price. Our Hotpoint oven went on the blink on the 23rd of December and they came out and replaced the whole thing on Christmas Eve, didn't cost us a penny as Hotpoint go by the "reasonable expectation of lifespan" policy, so even though it was 4 years old, they said we could reasonably expect that the oven should still work for up to 9 years. Pretty fantastic on their part, really.

Ok if you can afford it. Our Hotpoint lasted 20 years without a single problem. Only reason we junked it was because we got a new one with the new kitchen.

The question is: Will it work without the filter cover? If so, how important is the filter cover in the run of things?

Thank you all, much appreciated! I've ordered a replacement from spares2go, so we'll see if it turns up, failing which I'll work my way through the other suggestions.

Did you get my PM? There's one on eBay for a tenner.

Aargh, no I didn't notice the PM, but thank you very much! I will use this as my back-up option.
