This Christmas all 3 soaps didn't really do any stunts or big murders which was refreshing and as of late it feels like all soaps (I will include Emmerdale even though I believe it is awful) are going back to their roots. I for one have noticed it with EastEnders and other users have been saying that Corrie is too. So that leaves the question will 2017 say goodbye to all the big stunts and murders and will we get some good old proper soap drama that is character driven could this be the new way for all soaps?

I wouldn't say Corrie is not with what we know so far about Bethany's next storyline.

Eastenders has never really been one for massive stunts, even when they have done them in the last few years they have been more about the lead up/aftermath than the stunt itself, eastenders problem has been sensationalism, ret-conning, jumping the shark and forgeting to give characters an actual character. Something that has immediately been rectified by the producers.

I think Corrie and Eastenders will still do theirs, they tend to do them at the same time every year and I think that works for both soaps in a way. Corrie will no doubt have a stunt for votes towards the end of January 😂

The one soap you don't mention is Hollyoaks they do stunts and murders more often than the other three put together and they have noticeably scaled it back in the last 6 months ago.

I prefer character driven plots, I am enjoying all four at the moment as the writing and storylines on all are different and keeping me entertained. Thats what
I like and want to see.

For me the problem with overuse of stunts is each time you have to spend more and go one better and to be honest, I'd rather watch a film or a drama series for that kind of thing. They tend to have bigger budgets and better effects.

Where did you hear that about Corrie? They had a stunt in October and rumours are of a garage explosion in Early 2017. Emmerdale also just had a massive 12 car pileup in October. Also a small fire in January where no one dies. Hollyoaks have a stunt in January.
