Keep hearing the promos Anna Matronic's New Years Eve Party from a cruise liner from the Atlantic Ocean. It must be live?

The trails say it's live, but that doesn't mean much. Previous "live" stuff has turned out to be recorded live, which is meaningless, as how else are you going to record it.

Let's hope the BBC is not being duplicitous on this occasion, as they were on Xmas Day when Paul O'Grady kept saying, don't send us any more emails as we've got loads already, when the truth was that nothing was live between the Xmas Eve and Boxing Day After Midnights apart from the news bulletins.

If they can't be bothered to provide a live radio show, they should at least be up front about it and not try to deceive people.

Also, again stretching the truth, the trails for Dave Pearce say he's on until dawn on New Year's Day, yet the schedule has him ending well before then at 6am.

Quite honestly don't understand why Tony Blackburn isn't being allowed to go through from his returning to Radio 2 and 8pm start time on New Year's Eve through to 1am. We know without doubt he would be live. Considering he has brought in the new year in recent years on Radio 2 I find it odd that he will be signing off at 11pm. Many radio listeners to Radio 2 on New Year's Eve would rather have him go past midnight. I suppose we should just be grateful he's there at all though.

Most probably Anna was commissioned well before the BBC decided they had made a big error of judgement and bring back Tony

I thought Paddy O Connell was live on Boxing Day morning. I am sure he did a tribute to George Michael show which couldn't have been pre recorded since the news of the death didn't emerge until late Christmas Night.

I didn't listen but if thats ths case then that is very poor, shame on them for misleading people.

Used to always make me laugh, Bob Harris Sunday was always billed as 'playing live' so have this vision of the band in a studio at 1am playing live music when in reality it was recorded on a Thursday afternoon.

Why is it that some presenters admit to the show being pre recorded yet others try to spin a yarn?

This is a very good question.

Paddy O'Connell's Boxing Day show was after the same day's After Midnight show though.

I was hoping someone would challenge what I said and point out that there was something hidden away somewhere on Xmas Eve and Xmas Day R2 that was actually live, but I fear it's a forlorn hope.

Because having a band come in and perform live during a pre-record can still be classified as live. Presenters like Wrighty and love songs, huey Morgan etc admit their shows are done in advance to reassure the listeners that they have life outside radio and would be mental to have a live overnight / early morning show on top of their already packed schedule. Also keep in mind that huey has a 6 music show on Saturday mornings (4 hours after radio 2)

Back to the actual thread topic of Ana Matronic on New Year's Eve and I found it a rather disappointing show despite some rather nice live music by Caro Emerald. Many people had been in touch with Tony Blackburn previously expressing the hope that the connection to the boat would go down so he could remain on air to see in the new year with his show. It would have been far better if he had done so in terms of great music and atmosphere.
