Lib Dems say £450m 'clean Brexit' savings claim is a fantasy figure
Quote:
Estimate by pro-leave group Change Britain of £24bn overall savings dismissed by Tim Farron as ‘latest in a procession of lies’ In its research, Change Britain estimated that there would be £24bn of benefits overall from a clean Brexit, citing savings from ending EU budget contributions, forging bilateral trade deals with new countries and getting rid of some EU laws. But the former chief economist at the Cabinet Office Jonathan Portes said the figure was adding together supposed savings that could not be compared. “Adding increased exports and reduced government expenditure is literally meaningless. The results mean nothing. It isn’t research, it’s junk,” he said. Another problem with the calculation was counting the benefit of trade deals with countries such as South Korea that already have an agreement with the EU, Portes said. “But to my mind that is second order. Anybody who adds together increased government revenue literally has no idea what they are doing ... It’s no surprise people who backed the fictitious £350m figure also back this number,” he said. in response to the near-universal scepticism now greeting the claims that 350'000'000 a week will be spent on the NHS, it appears that Leave have opted for double-or-quits

You seem to forget that it was Project Fear that did for the remainers
http://www.express.co.uk/news/politi...Brexit-economy Oh and no rational person believed £350m a week was going to be spent on the NHS. It was never a promise that is just another remain lie. |

Stuart's speech of April 13th Quote:
'We would also regain control over the £350m subscription we pay Brussels every week. and that 'choice' being strongly suggested on the red bus as being in favour of the NHSWe could spend it on schools, the NHS, the environment, cutting the deficit -- the choice will become ours again.' yet, only the 'irrational' took all this at face value. Such revisionism beggars belief, yet you plod on with your delusional codswallop. |

They were neither the Government or an alternative Government so they were in no position to make a promise and so they did not. They did give an illustration of what could be done with £350m for comparative purposes. The fact that you want to twist things to continually support a lost cause is rather sad but there you go.
There's very little that Leave told that was the truth, in fact. You seem to be going to great lengths to tell us how they "technically" didn't do X. When you have to do this, you've lost the argument. They put £350m on the side of a bus, next to Boris at press conferences, and on pamphlets that they stuffed through every letter box in the land. |

Explain to us all where it says the NHS will get £350m a week? I can't wait to hear your explanation.
Still waiting to hear your explanation in the other thread about how Vote Leave didn't scare people by suggesting that Turkey is imminently joining the EU, placing the EU border next to Syria and Iraq |

"and that 'choice' being strongly suggested on the red bus as being in favour of the NHS" a suggestion repeated often enough to influence voters, otherwise why would they have done it? |

Vote Leave lied repeatedly, over and over again, trying to prey on people's emotions by suggesting that the NHS will get more money as a result of voting to leave. The masterminds behind it all really deserve prison time for duping the public. |

https://irishelectionliterature.file...voteleave1.jpg a new hospital every week, apparently. It also adds to the scaremongering by once again suggesting that Turkey was going to join the EU.

I'll ask for a fourth time, god, you're a stunning bore, where does it say on your new missive that we will get £350m for the NHS each week?
The reality is that Vote Leave repeatedly and knowingly used the NHS claim to dupe the public into *thinking* that it would be true. |

So just to be clear, is the £450 million now being offered by Change Britain; a) something that will happen b) something that could happen, or c) just another self serving lie? The article on the Change Britain website sounds like (a) but I tend to feel it may be (c). |

I know what you're trying to ask for. I'm not going to fall for the bait, because it's a classic internet argument technique to say "well technically x so you're wrong".

Coming from the same brain that can't grasp that 52/48 is a 4% difference, I'm not surprised by your inability to answer.

If I was as thick as you're trying to suggest, I'd have voted to leave on the basis of the NHS getting an additional £350m a week

hmm here is that picture - seems pretty clear to me. I seem to see the NHS logo there (illegally but anyway...) don't you ? The point being made was that we are a net contributor to the EU - and that net contribution whether it's £200m or £350m a week (cos if we had stayed in it would never go down) could pay for a lot of things in the UK including the NHS. What remainers have never explained is why they would rather this money be spent subsidising inefficient French and Polish farmers, upgrading the Slovakian motorway network or funding the Athens metro rather than on sick and frail elderly and disabled Britons. Remains campaign slogan really should have been 'Putting French and Polish farmers first!' |

It's also a pretty cheap membership fee for a club that gives us enormous trade potential. On the other hand, the government has no problem spaffing more cash towards those pensioners who are most likely to vote Tory. But when it comes to Brexit, the facts don't matter, right? |

It also goes towards subsidising British farmers, and upgrading infrastructure in Britain. I am typing this via a fibre optic connection that was 40% funded with EU cash. The dual carriageway road outside my village was upgraded, thanks in part to EU funding. As did the hospital a few miles away. The UK government would never invest in the same things if it had a unilateral choice.
