The way 2016 is going I wouldn't be surprised if her majesty kicks it before the years out. She's also been quite sick lately too. Obviously I don't want it to happen but it's going to be a massive shock. What will happen? Will there be a few days of mourning and a few days off work? Will we be off work for the funeral? How quickly will Charles become king? Will it cost the country a lot of money if the markets close? We don't really have a precedent of a long reigning monarch dying in this day and age

TV would be crap and DS would be filled with threads on it.

It's kind of disrespectful that how many days off is your highest priority.

There will be no TV and shops etc might close out of respect (except the huge chains I imagine)

You will get a day off for the funeral

Her heart will stop, breathing will cease and all bodily functions will terminate.

After that, it comes down to whether she's cremated or buried.

Charles will become king immediately, but won't be crowned for about a year. If the Queen dies during the night, it will be announced on the BBC at 8.00am, and I belive all comedy shows will be pulled for a certain number of days. I think the stock exchange will close for the day as well.

A day off work when she carks it is the only thing of value she'll ever give the nation.

Hmmm, I guess they wouldn't screen the first Naked Gun film for a while (Plot to assassinate the Queen). Good job I have it on DVD.

Dont get excited. Following on from this thread we won't actually get an extra day, it'll be a day less of out annual leave and a day added to bank holidays.

It'll dominate the news for a while, but I don't see it being as disruptive as the above article suggests.

Truth be told, a lot of people just see the monarchy as ceremonial now and the Queen is a good age so whenever her death happens, it won't be 'unexpected'.

Most people will just continue as normal because life goes on and most aren't that arsed about the monarchy.

There was but not on the main channels. My kids had to resort to cartoons on Channel 4 in the bedroom while I watched the non-stop news coverage.

In answer to the OP Sky News and DS will go into melt down. There will simultaneously be 84 threads started in the crazy rush to be first to post the news. A lot of people will post to say they don't care. Others will be demanding a day off work. Others will demand the end of the monarchy. There will be a State funeral with most business and schools closing. There will be mega security and I'm sure everything is already planned in minute detail.

I think she's got a few years in her left (hopefully anyway) and unfortunately Prince Philip will pop his clogs first.

Nah, there will still be Netflix. It's just be broadcast TV that will be disrupted.

Most employees got an extra bank holiday for William and Kate's wedding, so I would imagine the same will apply for the Queen's funeral. However, it'll obviously be more disruptive to employers due to the lack of notice we'll get.

Netflix WILL be affected... They'll push The Crown even more energetically.
