A criminally underused character who should be getting ten minutes a day, he's a character who seems to polarize people's perceptions. There are some people who seem to think he is some sort of a scumbag and then there are the wiser people who actually appreciate the merit and class Phelan is bringing back to The Cobbles. Anyway, this is a thread stressing how Patrick Phelan should be more central to the storylines of Coronation Street, and not just filler for people's exits. So without further ado, the endless possibilities producers have missed out on.

Mary's Rapist
Now obviously Phelan is a gentle man and is incapable of sexually intrusive contract, however that doesn't stop him from being naive in his younger days and they could make an interesting storyline that challenges the concept of consent. Now what are the chances of the well traveled Patrick Phelan stumbling across another woman in the North West, accidentally impregnating her and causing to deal with the consequences. Now, maybe Mary is saying she was raped because of the shame of her own night stand with Phelan perhaps?

Exposing Gary
Now as we know, Bethany Platt seems to have an affection towards Gary Windass. But maybe the clever producers are playing tricks on us and are only showing us one side to the story, where Gary is manipulating the vulnerable self-conscious Bethany. Maybe Gary is taking advantage of that? Now, this is where Pat Phelan comes in. As you know, Phelan has been somewhat of a scapegoat for the Windasses as they vent out their frustrations for being lower-class citizens with no emotional stability. Maybe this could be Phelan's bittersweet retribution for being victimised, as he challenges Gary's conduct and ousts the ginger fox for being the slimy child groomer he is.

What lack of Phelan? He seems to be forcing his way into every episode that doesn't need him!
