A decade since the very sad CBB of 2007
January 2007, and Jade Goody returned to the BB house.
I remember her sitting out in the garden, talking to Ken Roche, and telling him how she feared that coming back to Big Brother just might jinx everything; how she wanted to do what she could for her children, who meant the world to her. I will never accept that Jade was a racist person. She had a bit of a temper, and the somewhat superior attitude of Shilpa Shetty got on her wick. Of course things were said and done that were unfortunate - but the fall-out and aftermath of 'Oxogate' - or, as it came to be known 'The Race Row' - was catastrophic for Jade. And so any talk of Katie Hopkins appearing in CBB next month left me speechless - because Katie is quite an intelligent and articulate woman, who thrives on creating hostility and controversy. I would love to see 'ordinary', celebrities/mildly famous people appearing on CBB - flawed individuals like all of us who have their good and bad points - but whose main aim isn't to raise their profile by whatever means it takes. Let's hope the this next CBB surprises us - for good reasons. |

Nice to see some optimism
![]() Unfortunately it's looking like the same old same old with this show, as in TPTB pushing things too far to get them at each others throats and as always them in the house ALWAYS fall for it If you are too nice or not arguing for some airtime or not in a showmance on this show, you are automatically tagged as boring Looking at the teasers so far in terms of housemates, looks like it's going to be another series choc a bloc with conflict |

I like Jade! Made a few mistakes, but don't think she's racist.

The BB mentality is rather sad.
It was telling when Martin Roberts went into IAC thinking he had to act a certain way as seen on another show (BB) |

Jade was not a racist - but her mother was and so was the waste of space she had as a husband - and that was where the problem lay. And Katie Hopkins is indeed a intelligent and articulate woman so I think she would be good because there is no such thing as a 'ordinary', celebrities - I wish there was it I think not. |

Of course she wasn't racist in the true sense of the word, but sadly the world now ignores that definition.
i.e. if say, Jimmy Nail walked into a room and said "way aye, wheres me socks?" - and someone mocked his accent, everyone would have a laugh and not an eyelid would be batted, all good fun. However, if a person of colour with a strong national accent came in looking for their socks, and anyone mocked their accent, they'd are pretty much the devil, and would earn a "wayciss" label for life. Sad, sad, world. |

The decline started with BB8. Despite some people on here thinking it was BB7 due to them putting evicted housemates back in, it wasn't. BB7 done extremely well ratings wise, as did the CBB that followed it which was the race row series. Despite the race row, viewers obviously still wanted more BB and were interested as the next series which was BB8 got the highest launch night ratings of any BB series ever. BB8 was a shambles though and the ratings started to decline episode to episode. It was impossible to get to know the housemates properly...a house full of women from the first night I think put a lot of people off, as did the drip feeding in of the male housemates. It was a shambles of a series. They could probably have won back the viewers, however the next CBB wasn't that great and the next civilian series which was BB9 was just average. BB8 was the start of the decline in popularity though.

I didn't like her, I'm sorry she passed away but I didn't get all the hype surrounding her. Even when someone channels her in the house it's so obvious.

I doubt Shilpa would have gone on to nail the victory if she wasn't liked/likeable. Jade was gone day 17, which left another 9 days of the series left. Things could have easily been tipped on their head in that amount of time, which they often are.
The argument that Shilpa had a stuck-up attitude to excuse Jade's actions doesn't really work either as Jade treated Sophie with similar disdain in BB3. Though I guess that might show that race maybe wasn't the main motivation for Jade's anger. I think Jade simply identified a weak target who she perceived as socially awkward and without many friends for back-up (she did a similar thing to Rik Waller in Back To Reality too, she just couldn't help herself). Perhaps the reason she got away with treating Sophie like that while the Shilpa thing blew up is because it was easier to put a label on the Shilpa scandal. CBB5 was quite fascinating really, admittedly in a rather terrible way. Who would have thought that CBB could be so influential to cause an international incident, discussion in parliament and burning effigies in the streets of India. Seems surreal now. |

I don't understand the argument that Jade wasn't racist, merely stupid and ignorant. Well, that's the essence of racism - it's borne of idiocy, ignorance and stupidity. Jade WAS racist, stupid and ignorant and scared of anyone that she couldn't identify with...As were the ghastly Jo and Danielle. They were a holy triumverate of racist, nasty idiots. Jack Tweed and Jackiieeeeeey completed the glorious picture.

IMHO the decline began the summer before when they started putting evicted housemates back in and eligible to win.

Gawd cant believe its 10 years
I remember it like it was just yesterday. I was so excited about Jade going back in as I loved her in BB3 but of course like everyone didn't expect it to turn out as the 'racism' outburst like it did. I did feel sorry for Jade as at the end of the day, yes she showed bullying behaviour at times and yes she had a temper on her but not once did she come across racist. OK, it was pretty obvious she didn't like Shilpa but it was nothing to do with where she was from. I dont even think Jo was racist either, she just said things without thinking and as for Jackiey, no being horrible because I know she has had a hard life and I do feel sorry for her, but I don't even think she has the intelligence to be racist. I don't mean that in a horrible way, I just think 90% of the time Jackiey didn't know where the hell she was or what the hell she was doing The thing that really p---ed me off and still does is how afterwards how Jade and Jo got such a hard time, particularly Jo having a mental breakdown and being admitted to the Priory (i'll never forget that GMTV interview she did with Fiona Phillips where she looked mentally distraught and she shook and rocked back and forth throughout the whole interview) and Danielle bloody was able to disappear then reappear and everyone acted like nothing had happened. That was completely unfair and i'll never understand why Jade and Jo got such a hard time but Danielle completely got away with everything |

She was adamant that Jade was no bully - she didn't warm to Shilpa, and neither did I. |

I do remember when Jackiey came into the house, she went around everyone saying 'pleased to meet you'. She displayed ignorance about Shilpa and India - but I mean ignorance, as she had no knowledge, no clue. It was also obvious that Jade was a bit embarrassed by her mum, yet felt for her, and was quite upset that Jackiey was evicted suddenly - and in her bare feet. It was a really horrible scenario, when you come to think of it. |
