Love the version played on EE (the source ft Candi Statton) much more than the florence and the machine version though. One of my fave ever songs.

Somebody who clearly agrees with his vision for the show.

I get your a big fan of them so think it is a huge mistake and many will agree with you but equally many feel that their time has well and truly passed and that Ronnie in particular ceased to be a viable character due to the Carl, Charlue and Fatboy plots and death is the right call for her ending as karma fir the lives she has taken and as her tragic heroine status.

SOC's boss may well see it that way.

And he would have planned out his ideas to the BBC when interviewed for the job, so they would have been aware of the sisters depatures.

In addition to that, the BBC have hired Oliver Kent to liase with the continuing drama bosses, and he will obviously be aware as well.”

Kent is also not afraid to kill off very popular characters as shown with Digby in Holby earlier this year.

True.

I'm not saying this won't be viewed as a mistake in years to come, but I can understand why the decision has been made and approved. Not everybody thinks it is a terrible idea.

Today in Walford it was New Years Eve, as Ronnie said it was her last night as a a single woman and Ronnie and Jack are getting married on NYD. I assume Thurs, FrI and Sunday will be set on NYD therfore tonight was the last 2016 episode in Walford.

Thanks for that explanation sqwidge. It didn't feel like NYE on the square though did it but I'll buy that it was the last set in 2016... until Thursday

So much outrage for so little reason.

Got to be honest I did check to see if EE was on before the end of the year because it did feel like the last episode however if all the duff duffs are going to be dramatic and upsetting then it wouldn't be appropriate to say "Thank you" then.

Some heavy symbolism as we approach the end of the road for Ronnie and Roxy.

Honestly, I've loved them on the show but I do think it's good they are leaving.
This regression for Roxy in particular, has been annoying to watch. It's really the end of the road storywise for both of them.

Nice ending.
I've never known such a gentle Christmas on EastEnders, which leads me to think New Years will be all the more shocking.

I came to this thread wondering the same thing. I thought it was the last episode of 2016, too. Lovely ending! Don't want either of them to die. I want Roxy to be happy.

It didnt feel like it was NYE, No mention of it, no chimes no celebrating.

In my eyes it is clear why Ronnie at least got written out of the show, her character no longer fits the DNA

Anyone notice that DTC's name wasn't on those end credits? I checked a few times and couldn't see it!!

this made me lol when it was just a simple question asked I must have missed the huge deal part

when I watched i did assume myself it was the last episode of the year especially as the ending tied into the wedding - new years day, being the next episode

for all the feel good crap endings we have had recently I quite liked this one

fingers crossed Ronnie survives

Hopefully a lorry will come hurtling round the corner and squash the pair of them. 😁

i noticed it as well! Even checked twice through the credits as the names are put in alphabetical order and normally a long double barrelled name like DTC's would be easy to spot. How odd, especially considering Batten and Lamb are on it yet DTC isn't.

I must admit I took it to mean that episode was the last to be set in 2016, perhaps we are skipping NYE and Thursday will be the early hours of new years day continuing on Friday and Sunday, which I think might make it the first time that EE hasn't featured NYE in some way with the Big Ben chimes etc?

I remember the episode which was actually broadcast around the real time chimes of midnight, I think it was when Pauline discovered that Den was Vicky's father, perhaps 1987?

Maybe his departure wasn't amicable. Although he should still have his name on there.

I don't think it can have been NYE as Lee was ar work. He might work Saturdays of course as it's a call centre but they seemed yobe acting as if it was his first day back at work since all the arrests on Xmas. Day. Which would suggest today, Wednesday.

Last night of freedom could be a euphamism. Hen nights are often referred to in those terms but they rarely actually happen the night before the wedding. The bridal party dont want a hangover at the wedding aside from anything else.

I've been thinking this as well, his stepping down was a surprise as he previously seemed happy to stay with the show for years (even if some weren't ) and it seems odd that he wasn't on the end of year credits considering he was executive producer until June.
