I'm heading to Hannover, Germany in March for a few days. Going to see a band at the TUI Arena, but wondering if anyone could help for suggestions for the rest of the time I'll have there.

First time I've been there, so I'd love to take in some of the local culture.

The Welfenschloss that your Royal Family used to call home is impressive you can go an look at the treasury the Prussian's plundered to finance their militaristic ambitions

I don't know if you're into gardens but the Herrenhausen Gardens (of which there are 3) are worth a visit and March should see things starting to bud again

The town has one of those hop-on-hop-off tour bus systems so a decent way of getting to see around the town and have things pointed out to you. Looks like it restarts on March 16th

I haven't been to it but lots of people say the New Town Hall and its Curved Lift to the top is great but last time I was there the thought of visiting the Town Hall didn't appeal

To Brits it's Hanover, in Germany, if you land there by plane you'll be at Flughafen Hannover, if you arrive by train it will be Hannover Hbf., short for Hauptbahnof, (main station.)

I was born in Maastricht which is the Dutch spelling, the number of people who tell me it's spelt Mastricht

My ticket says Hannover.

Hey, when in Rome! (or Lower Saxony in this case!)

It is infested with beggars and you will be targeted if you look like a stranger to the area.
This is the only thing that spoils it.

Okay, I must have been to Hannover more than twenty times, I'm not over keen on it in winter, but it's great when it's warm.
I must make an appointment with SpecSavers, as I've never seen any infestation of beggars there.
In the pedestrianised shopping area from Bahnhofstrasse to Kröpcke you'll see a few of the ubiquitous young scruffy punks with dogs on rope leashes, but the only time I've been approached by them, was to be offered flyers protesting the wars from Afghanistan to the Mid-east, or bizzarely to encourage a welcome to any refugees from war torn Africa.

I was there 3 years ago and can confirm there were loads of beggars. I thought London was bad, but on the day I was there, there were many.

I even had a conversation with one and it turned out he was Scottish and an ex soldier who stayed in Germany when he left the army but couldn't find a job (or perhaps didn't want to)

We didn't stay in Hanover. We did a day trip. We were staying in the town I was stationed. Nienburg.

It is possible that I will be visiting Germany again late this coming summer.
I have several German friends from my days in BAOR, and visit every 2 or 3 years normally.
