With the return of max in EE got me thinking what are the biggest miscarriages of justice or simply police getting it badly wrong in spite of the facts for me the ones that spring to mind are...

Max Branning x 2 Lucy,s death and the car crash with Phil
Arthur Fowler Theft which ultimately led to his death
deirdre Barlow - Free the weatherfield one didn't the prime minister even get involved

Matthew Rose in EE went down for the manslaughter of Saskia Tate - he had seen Steve Owen kill her to save his own (Steve's) life and then been pressurised into helping bury the body.

Janine Butcher was held on remand while awaiting trial for Laura Beale's murder. Laura died in an accident.

Paul Robinson in Neighbours went to prison for the Lassiter's fire this year, it was actually caused by Jakka Hills.

Corrie loves this trope, as well as Deidre we have (and I don't think this is even all of them!):

Gail went to prison for the murder of husband number 3(4?) Joe McIntyre - he died in an accident while attempting to pull a "Canoe Man" type insurance con.

Tyrone I spent some time inside for battering Kirsty. Of course. she was actually abusing him.

Fiz was convicted of 3 murders and sentenced to life imprisonment. Real killer, John Stape confessed and Fiz was eventually freed.

Maria was held on remand for the murder of Caz in the last few months. Caz wasn't even dead and there was no evidence that she was.

I'm not sure if it counts, but the Weatherfield Police are happy that Tony (Jason's dad) killed Calum and closed the investigation into his death - the actual killer was the now deceased Kylie.

.
TBF with this storyline didn't pat find out Janine was responsible for Barry,s death and allowed Janine to be charged for Laura,s death as some sort of revenge

Speaking of the Tate,s maybe he got the idea from his step mum. Didn,t she fake her own death and Frank ended up on remand

Robert Sugden got away with the manslaughter of Katie Sugden.

Aaron got away with being an accessory and perverting the course of justice.

eta: oh, and of course Ross got away with attempted murder of Robert. Wish he'd succeeded.

Yes, the Free George Jackson campaign came waaay before the Weatherfield One and he was never vindicated either.

Corrie's miscarriage of justice storylines are as overdone as their almost yearly murder plots.

And the thing that gets me the characters aren't fussed when released and just accept the fact they were basically harassed and locked up on flimsy 'evidence'. Maria should have complained about that permanently bitchy detective who tried to dismiss others claims or reports, like when Aidan reported seeing Caz.

Also the neighbours and friends of these wrongfully accused people are so quick to believe that these people are guilty and give these people a hard time even though they've known them for years. But once the wrongfully accused are realeased these neighbours and friends never apologise to them and the wrongfully accused never seem bothered by this.

The only time I've seen someone actually apologise and the wrongfully accused (quite rightly in my opinion) ignore their apology was when Kate went begging to Maria for forgiveness and Maria told her to do one

I don't recall Fiz saying sorry, despite what her and Tyrone went through with Kirsty. In fact, I don't even recall Tyrone speaking to Maria at all since she was released (before her imprisonment once again).

Of course the whole thing with Maria is terrible anyway, like not much thought went into it. Former nice guy Luke is having cheap sex with the local murderer and Tyrone is otherwise engaged.

In 1992/93, Shane in Home and Away ended up being jailed for robbing an elderly person's house. The real culprit was Tug who planted the stuff in Shane's school locker. Shane escaped from prison at pretty much the point when the truth came out. Although Shane's original conviction was invalidated, pretty sure he was returned to prison for a time due to escaping. Surely they could've let him go with time served since he shouldn't have been there to begin with?

Brendan in Hollyoaks being sent to prison for killing his dad who physically, sexually and emotionally abused him for years. His 'beloved' sister finds out, kills him (the father she adored) and then lets her brother rot in prison while she goes off into the sunset with her rich boyfriend. All of this after seeing her brother happy for the first time forever!
